Inspiration 🤔
The inspiration behind Inclusee came from our desire to make digital design accessible to everyone, regardless of their visual abilities. We recognized that many design tools lack built-in accessibility features, making it challenging for individuals with low vision, dyslexia, and other visual impairments to create and enjoy visually appealing content. Our goal was to bridge this gap and ensure that everyone can see and create beautiful designs.
What it does 📙
Inclusee is an accessibility addon for Adobe Express that helps designers ensure their creations are accessible to individuals with low vision, dyslexia, and other visual impairments. The addon analyzes the colors, fonts, and layouts used in a design, providing real-time feedback and suggestions to improve accessibility. Inclusee highlights areas that need adjustments and offers alternatives that comply with accessibility standards, ensuring that all users can appreciate and interact with the content.
How we built it 🚧
We built Inclusee using the Adobe Express Add-On SDK, leveraging its powerful capabilities to integrate seamlessly with the design tool. Our team used a combination of JavaScript and React to develop the addon interface. We implemented color analysis algorithms to assess contrast ratios and detect color blindness issues. Additionally, we incorporated text analysis to identify and suggest dyslexia-friendly changes. Our development process included rigorous testing to ensure the addon works smoothly across different devices and platforms.
Challenges we ran into 🤯
One of the largest challenges we faced was working with the Adobe Express Add-On SDK. As it is a relatively new tool, there are limited usage examples and documentation available. This made it difficult to find guidance and best practices for developing our addon. We had to rely heavily on experimentation and reverse-engineering to understand how to effectively utilize the SDK's features.
Additionally, the SDK is still being fleshed out and new features are continuously being added. This meant that certain functionalities we wanted to implement were not yet available, forcing us to find creative workarounds or adjust our plans. The evolving nature of the SDK also posed challenges in terms of stability and compatibility, as updates could potentially introduce changes that affected our addon.
Despite these hurdles, we persevered and were able to successfully integrate Inclusee with Adobe Express. Our experience working with the SDK has given us valuable insights and we are excited to see how it evolves and improves in the future.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🥹
We are proud of creating a tool that makes digital design more inclusive and accessible. Our addon not only helps designers create accessible content but also raises awareness about the importance of accessibility in design. We successfully integrated Inclusee with Adobe Express, providing a seamless user experience. Additionally, our color and font analysis algorithms are robust and accurate, offering valuable suggestions to improve design accessibility.
What we learned 🧑🎓
Throughout the development of Inclusee, we learned a great deal about accessibility standards and best practices in design. We gained insights into the challenges faced by individuals with visual impairments and the importance of inclusive design. Our team also enhanced our skills in using the Adobe Express Add-On SDK and optimizing performance for real-time applications.
