Inspiration

The inspiration for Leafs Social is rooted in the Vietnamese philosophy of "Healthy leafs shelter the torn ones" (Lá lành đùm lá rách) which advocates for community support and solidarity. Our focus was sharpened when we identified the struggles of street lottery sellers in Vietnam. These industrious individuals add value to our society but face financial hardships and limited opportunities. We envisioned a tech-forward platform to aid these individuals while adhering to the ethics of mutual aid.

What it does

Leafs Social aims to be a multi-faceted platform encompassing e-commerce, gaming, NFT trading, and charitable giving. At its core is the Leaf Token, a stable coin pegged to the value of 1 cent. This token serves multiple purposes:

  • Used for transactions within Leafs Social, including gaming and e-commerce.
  • Supports charitable projects that are verified by the platform.
  • Leaf Token is backed by a reserve fund in USDT or FIAT, ensuring liquidity and stability.

How we built it

Leveraging blockchain technology and AI, we built Leafs Social using Rust, BOS, JavaScript and TypeScript (Nestjs, Nextjs). Our main components include:

  • Leafs Shop: An e-commerce platform rewarding transactions with Leaf Tokens.
  • Leafs Map: Shows vendors, charitable projects, and emergency cases that need help.
  • Leafs Play Store: Houses games and apps that use Leaf Tokens.
  • Social Features: Enables networking, messaging, and sharing within a positive and encouraging community atmosphere.

Challenges we ran into

  • Regulatory Hurdles: Complying with financial and data privacy laws while operating a blockchain platform was tricky.
  • Technology Integration: Building a seamless experience between different components like e-commerce, NFT, and social networking presented integration challenges.
  • Community Trust: Gaining trust for a new digital currency in a space already crowded with tokens.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Financial Inclusion: Empowering lottery ticket sellers and vendors to digitalize their offerings, thus expanding their market reach.
  • Token Liquidity: Successfully maintaining a stable and liquid Leaf Token.
  • Community Engagement: Building a vibrant, active community that participates in charity and mutual aid.

What we learned

We've learned the importance of community involvement in the success of a tech project. The balance between technology and social good has been a crucial learning point, illustrating that tech solutions are most effective when they solve real-world problems.

What's next for Leafs Social

The roadmap includes:

  • Platform Scaling: Onboarding more vendors and integrating more games and NFT artists.
  • Global Expansion: Although rooted in Vietnamese culture, the principles are universal, and we aim for a broader market.
  • Sustainability Projects: Aligning with our social mission, future iterations will focus on environmental protection and emission reduction.
