Inspiration
During this pandemic, most of us have been online. Professionals, students, teachers, parents, creating an isolated world within our four walls. So we don’t have the opportunity to express ourselves or interact with others. And sometimes these indoor working environments make people feel lost to the point that they don't want to interact at all and create a negative environment for themselves where they feel judged and lonely. So as The Mind Crackers our main goal was to bridge this gap of mental illness awareness and to provide a support system for people who feel alone in this world and want a shoulder to lean on, so with this app we hope to bring people closer that have similar impressions of themselves and help them have a safe environment to connect with people, online and in-person that may create a positive change in their lives.
What it does?
It's a socially interactive platform that allows users to communicate with others, anonymously or publicly by talking through their emotions, feelings and problems. Its main page gives consumers access to the overall chats of people all over the world, along with that there are additional filters that direct users to private group chats and messages.
How we built it?
This app prototype was built mostly on Figma. However all the design work was done through Canva and Adobe Software.
Challenges we ran into?
Some of the challenges that we ran into as a group would be miss-communication with work that needed to be done, and along with that some members had a few struggles with the programs with not being familiar with it previously and so it took a lot of trial and error to get accustomed to these new applications which resulted in eating our time away.
Accomplishments that we're proud of?
We have heard and seen many people going through mental blocks and situations along their life, whether it’d be during the pandemic or before it. So through this app, we believe that we can add value to people's lives in a positive way. As Mahatma Gandhi mentioned, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” And so this project would definitely be our overall accomplishment throughout this hackathon.
What we learned
Since most of our team was not very well-versed in coding and Figma, we learned how to use these software's. But most importantly we learned that communication is the key to success, while doing our project as well as to bridge the gap of mental health :) With being in different time zones our team struggled a bit, however through proper communication we were able to resolve all the issues and put forth a project.
What's next for LONERS?
Although this prototype is not fully operational, the next step would definitely be to develop it further into a functional app that users can utilize daily. Also, since we were low on time and resources we would definitely want to adopt a safety feature onto this app so that people are able to meet without having any concerns.
