Inspiration 💡

The inspiration behind NearSocialBoost stemmed from the desire to address the funding challenges faced by projects building on the Near Protocol. We recognized the need for a decentralized crowdfunding platform that not only provides financial support but also fosters community engagement and recognition. By combining blockchain technology with a social touch, we aimed to empower projects and amplify connections within the Near Ecosystem.

What it does 🤔

NearSocialBoost is a powerful crowdfunding application built on the Aurora blockchain. Its core functionality revolves around enabling project creators to raise funds for their ventures and gain recognition within the Near community. Through the platform, creators can showcase their innovative ideas, connect with potential investors, and secure the financial backing needed to turn their visions into reality.

At the heart of NearSocialBoost lies a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). The DAO plays a pivotal role in recognizing valuable projects and facilitating community engagement. Users can become members of the DAO by minting Membership NFTs and acquiring voting ERC-20 tokens. These membership privileges grant users the ability to actively participate in decision-making processes, including voting on project proposals.

To ensure a fair and transparent decision-making process, proposals submitted to the DAO require a 10% voting favor to pass. This mechanism ensures that projects with genuine potential receive the necessary support, while also maintaining a balanced and inclusive ecosystem.

How we built it ⚙️

The development of NearSocialBoost involved a collaborative effort, leveraging the capabilities of the Near blockchain and smart contract technology. Here are the key components of the project:

  1. Near Blockchain: We utilized the Aurora Protocol which internally is built on Near Blockchain to build the decentralized infrastructure for NearSocialBoost. The Near blockchain provided the necessary security, scalability, and transparency required for a robust crowdfunding platform.

  2. Smart Contracts: We developed and deployed smart contracts on the Near blockchain to implement the crowdfunding mechanisms, DAO functionalities, and membership management. These contracts govern the interactions between project creators, funders, and the DAO.

  3. Web Application: We built a user-friendly web application that serves as the interface for project creators, funders, and DAO members. The application allows project creators to submit proposals, funders to contribute funds, and DAO members to participate in the voting process.

  4. Membership NFTs and ERC-20 Tokens: We implemented the minting and distribution of Membership NFTs and voting ERC-20 tokens to facilitate community engagement and decision-making within the DAO.

Design 🎨

We were heavily inspired by the revised version of Double-Diamond design process, which not only includes visual design, but a full-fledged research cycle in which you must discover and define your problem before tackling your solution & then finally deploy it.

  1. Discover: a deep dive into the problem we are trying to solve.
  2. Define: synthesizing the information from the discovery phase into a problem definition.
  3. Develop: think up solutions to the problem.
  4. Deliver: pick the best solution and build that.

Moreover, we utilized design tools like Figma, Photoshop & Illustrator to prototype our designs before doing any coding. Through this, we are able to get iterative feedback so that we spend less time re-writing code.

Challenges we ran into 😤

During the development of NearSocialBoost, we encountered several challenges that tested our skills and problem-solving abilities. Some of the notable challenges include:

  1. Smart Contract Complexity: Designing and implementing smart contracts with intricate functionalities, such as the DAO and voting mechanisms, required careful planning and consideration of edge cases.

  2. Security and Auditing: Ensuring the security of the platform and conducting thorough audits to identify potential vulnerabilities demanded meticulous attention to detail and robust testing procedures.

  3. User Experience: Creating a user-friendly interface that provides a seamless experience for project creators, funders, and DAO members presented its own set of challenges. We aimed to strike a balance between simplicity and functionality to cater to users with varying levels of technical expertise.

Accomplishments that we're proud of ✨

We are proud of finishing the project on time which seemed like a tough task as we started working on it quite late due to other commitments. We were also able to add most of the features that we envisioned for the app during ideation. And as always, working overnight was pretty fun! :)

Throughout the development of NearSocialBoost, we achieved several milestones that we are proud of:

  1. Successful Deployment: We successfully deployed NearSocialBoost on the Aurora blockchain, making it accessible to project creators, funders, and DAO members within the Near Ecosystem.

  2. Integration of DAO and Crowdfunding: We seamlessly integrated the DAO functionalities with the crowdfunding mechanisms, allowing for transparent and community-driven decision-making.

  3. Membership NFT and Voting Token System: We implemented the minting and distribution of Membership NFTs and voting ERC-20 tokens, enabling users to actively participate in the DAO and contribute to project recognition.

  4. Transparent and Secure Platform: We prioritized the security and transparency of the platform, ensuring that project creators, funders, and DAO members can trust the crowdfunding process and engage with confidence.

What we learned 🙌

Proper sleep is very important! :p Well, a lot of things, both summed up in technical & non-technical sides. Also not to mention, we enhanced our googling and Stackoverflow searching skill during the hackathon :)

The development of NearSocialBoost was a valuable learning experience for our team. Some of the key lessons we learned include:

  1. Collaboration and Teamwork: Building a complex application like NearSocialBoost required effective collaboration and teamwork. We learned the importance of communication, coordination, and leveraging each team member's strengths.

  2. Blockchain Development: Working with the Near Protocol and smart contracts deepened our understanding of blockchain technology. We gained insights into decentralized systems, consensus mechanisms, and the importance of security in blockchain applications.

  3. Community Engagement: NearSocialBoost emphasized the significance of community engagement and the power of decentralized decision-making. We learned the value of fostering a strong and inclusive community to drive the success of a blockchain project.

As we look ahead, there are exciting prospects for the future of NearSocialBoost:

  1. Mainnet Deployment: Our next step is to rewrite the contracts in js and deploy NearSocialBoost on the Near Protocol mainnet, making it accessible to a broader audience and providing real-world crowdfunding opportunities for projects within the Near Ecosystem.

  2. Enhanced Features: We aim to continually improve NearSocialBoost by adding new features and functionalities based on user feedback and evolving market needs. These enhancements may include advanced project analytics, improved user interfaces, and expanded integration options.

  3. Partnerships and Integrations: We plan to explore partnerships and collaborations with other projects and platforms within the Near Ecosystem. By fostering synergies and integrating with complementary services, we can provide a more comprehensive crowdfunding experience for our users.

  4. Community Growth: Growing the NearSocialBoost community is a key priority. We will actively engage with the Near community, organize events, and incentivize active participation to attract more project creators, funders, and DAO members to the platform.
