Inspiration

The inspiration for NeuroBeats came from a universal frustration: spending more time searching for the perfect song than actually enjoying music. During late-night coding sessions, I found myself wasting 20+ minutes scrolling through Spotify, never finding that perfect match for my current mood or activity. I realized that existing music platforms analyze what you've listened to, but they don't understand why you listen to certain music at specific times. What if AI could read between the beats and understand the emotional context behind our musical choices? That's when the vision became clear: create a music platform that doesn't just play songs, but truly understands the listener's soul.

NeuroBeats is an AI-powered music streaming platform that revolutionizes music discovery through:

Neural Playlist Generation: Uses OpenRouter AI to create personalized playlists based on mood, time of day, activity, and emotional context Voice-First Interaction: Natural language commands like "Hey NeuroBeats, I need music for a late-night coding session" Immersive Audio Visualizations: Real-time visual experiences that dance with your music Smart Context Awareness: Learns your patterns (jazz during work, electronic after 8 PM) Social Music Intelligence: Share not just playlists, but the AI reasoning behind them Progressive Web App: Install once, enjoy everywhere - online or offline Accessibility-First Design: Full keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and adaptive interfaces

The platform integrates with Deezer API for music data and streaming, while Supabase handles authentication, user profiles, and playlist storage.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

OAuth Authentication Nightmare: Supabase OAuth kept returning DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN errors. After hours of debugging, discovered it was incorrect environment variable configuration - the URL needed to be the actual project URL, not a placeholder. Now I Use Clerk for Autentication. AI Prompt Engineering Complexity: Getting AI to generate truly personalized, coherent playlists was incredibly challenging. Took 50+ iterations to develop a multi-layered prompt system that considers user history, context, and emotional state. Real-time Audio Performance: Audio visualizations were causing frame drops on mobile devices. Solved by implementing Web Workers for audio processing and optimizing animations with RequestAnimationFrame throttling. Cross-browser Audio Compatibility: Web Audio API behaves differently across browsers, especially Safari. Built a comprehensive audio abstraction layer with fallbacks and polyfills. State Management Complexity: Managing audio state, user preferences, playlists, and AI responses became unwieldy. Migrated from useState chaos to well-organized Zustand stores.
