Inspiration
The world is having a hard time suffering from the tough economy. Kids are future adults who will need to deal with their own finances by themselves someday. Therefore, we would love to teach kids about the real world, especially in saving money, about financial literacy.
What it does
Attempts to teach kids about financial literacy, with a reward system by achieving collections of different colored piggies, farm items, and landscapes through regularly logging expense information and uploading receipts specifically in learning how to save money based on user information entered from user settings.
How we built it
Used Next.js to build the front-end application, to make reactive components Used FASTAPI, MongoDB Atlas, OCRSpace, and a home LLM (running gemma2) server to run the backend Designed and Wireframed on an iPad Dockerized to build
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with making our project something more creative at first and narrowing down our ideas to focus on the target demographics and purposes of this application. As a group of 4, we assigned each other different tasks but integrating everything together each of us worked wasn't too easy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As half of the team were first time hackers, we were able to still come together and learn from each other. We didn't give up until the end, and just constantly pushed ourselves to complete building something cool like Pignance!
What we learned
We learned how we should brainstorm and discuss everything in the beginning, no matter if it was frontend or backend, so we were all on the same page. Communication is the key.
What's next for Pignance
Expanding Pignance with more financial literacy tips would be a really great idea, not just for saving money.
