Inspiration
Our inspiration for the application idea was to build an app that solves the problem of keeping track of all our groceries and resources that we have access to. Be it in your fridge, or on a counter-top with all your canned goods. We wanted to develop an app that kept track of these things to inform people about the amount of each resource they have. A grocery-management application.
What it does
The app is a mobile application that utilizes the users phone camera to keep track of their resources by recognizing items placed on the users receipt after they've gone grocery shopping.
How we built it
We built this application using the following stack: Flask, React Native, Firebase and Google Cloud Vision
Challenges we ran into
Initially, we planned to target the prize challenges using JINA AI and CockroachDB. However, as the first day went on we realized it'd be better to drop these technologies and move on to more familiar technologies.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to build a mostly functioning application in 2 days!
What we learned
In terms of technologies, we learned the following: React Native, Firebase, Google Cloud Vision. We also learned to communicate and co-operate with each other as the hackathon went on, making for an enjoyable experience.
What's next for Recette
We have a lot of future prospects for Recette. However, our next biggest idea is to refine the application and extend it out by recommending users recipes they can make with their resources, and possibly reaching out to local grocery-stores to collaborate.
