Inspiration
Life is Strange Polaroid Cameras Wanting a playlist based off memories.
What it does
Retro Vu is an album archive that allows you to reminisce about the past in a whole new way. The program uses AI facial emotion recognition to identify the mood, vibe, and sentiment of the entire album and convert that into a perfectly curated playlist. In addition, Retro Vu also applies a vintage-feeling filter over your photo album so you can see your memories in a new light.
How we built it
We used Python for the backend and React.js with Vite for the front end. Various wrappers and libraries were used, including Spotify API, Google Vision AI, and technologies such as Kintone and Docker.
Challenges we ran into
I think it's safe to say, our path was mainly challenging throughout the run. Docker gave us headaches in the beginning, as it was our first time using it. Spotify's API, specifically the access token, was incredibly frustrating to deal with and took most of our time. However, we did learn a lot through these challenges, and were are confident if we were to do it again, it would be a breeze.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the fact that we created a full-stack application in only 36 hours. We are also happy with how well we collaborated. And frankly, we're proud that we all made it through.
What we learned
Don't use Spotify's API
What's next for Retro Vu
We planned to create a system to share your albums and playlists with friends. Additionally, we hope to gather data about the age of the user to better tailor their nostalgic experience to them.
