Inspiration

As a girl, I know how it feels when safety is always at the back of your mind — walking alone, getting unwanted stares, or just wishing there was a way to feel secure. What inspired me to create SafeSiren was that simple thought: in those moments, we don’t need something complicated, we just need something quick and reliable. I wanted to build a tool that I, and every girl, could trust — whether it’s raising an alarm or quietly reaching out for help. SafeSiren comes from that very need to feel safe, anytime, anywhere.

What it does

SafeSiren is a simple safety web app built for quick action in unsafe situations. With just one tap, it can play a loud siren to draw attention or silently send your live location to trusted contacts. It’s designed to be fast, reliable, and easy — because when safety is at stake, every second counts.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

  • Ensuring the siren and alert features work instantly and reliably in real situations.
  • Handling weak or no internet connectivity when sending live location.
  • Keeping the design simple enough to use quickly under stress.
  • Protecting user data and maintaining privacy.
  • Balancing development time and technical resources as students.

What's next for Safesiren

  • Develop a working prototype of the app with core features (siren + location sharing).
  • Test the app with real users to improve speed, design, and usability.
  • Add advanced features like one-tap SOS to police helplines, offline SMS alerts, or wearable device integration.
  • Partner with safety organizations, colleges, and communities to spread adoption.
  • Scale SafeSiren into a mobile app for both Android and iOS.
