Inspiration

In the stage of self-discovery, there are numerous changes that take place within. Such changes can be hard to articulate and visualize, making the process all the more complicated. SelfPride was made with the intention of solving this issue. The formal inspiration itself simply came from the experience of transitioning from childhood to teen years. This universal transition itself can be quite the experience, let alone the impact of gender identification and self-exploration.

What it does

Carefully crafted using Html CSS and Javascript, self-pride is an all-in-one webpage designed to be your go-to in times of self-doubt. It begins with a login page which then leads to the homepage, which is a completely custom space that allows you to see yourself in a holistic sense through images you save.
The contents page on the far right is comprised of a carefully reviewed and a selected list of podcasts that not only relate to self-discovery, but to the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. The podcasts can cover complex topics such as self-value building, but also could be simplistic in nature with people sharing their experiences and journey to their pronouns.

In addition to this, a quotes page was added as a method of motivation administration.

SelfPride is an all-in-one webpage designed to be your go-to in times of self-doubt. Finally, the explore page allows one to scroll through a gallery of content from various creators. Which in essence, can be seen as a mini-Pinterest feature embedded into the webpage.

How we built it

The webpage was carefully crafted using Html CSS and Javascript

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was regarding the creation of the content itself. Due to this being a solo project, all work had to be done by a single person. There were a variety of intended features that unfortunately couldn't be brought to life as time was limited.
In addition to this, my knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript is limited and could only be classified as a basic understanding of the content. This required additional research and various consultations with numerous websites in order to put together SelfPride.

What we learned

Overall, my general knowledge and proficiency in web development have reached new heights. In addition to this, I have gained new insight regarding the local storage option that can be accessed with Javascript. This helped to save the username from the login page, in order to display the user's name on the home page.

What's next for SelfPride

Next steps for SelfPride include increasing functionality and accessibility through the process of creating an additional mobile application. Furthermore, APIs will be used in order to enhance the search bar feature.
