Inspiration
We wanted to develop a project in the healthcare and wellbeing track to address the epidemic of mental health in college students and young adults. We recognized social media apps are consuming youth more than ever and wanted to include the social aspect to our project but without the toxic aspects such as likes, comments and serving based on popularity. Esentially we stripped our project down to its fundamental feature, users post a photo of them smiling.
What it does
Introducing Smiley, the social media app that helps build a non-toxic community and promotes mental well-being. Our app is designed to create a positive and uplifting space where users can share one thing that kept them positive for the day and send a selfie of themselves smiling. By eliminating the 'like' and 'comment' functions, we're promoting less toxicity and less addiction. But that's not all, Smiley also features a live-time map that shows how many users are using the app and smiling around you, which fosters a sense of connectedness and community. This feature also allows you to explore new areas and connect with new people, ultimately promoting mental well-being and creating an uplifting social experience. Our research shows that mental illness is on the rise globally, and social media can exacerbate negative feelings and emotions. But with Smiley, we're creating a solution that promotes social bonding, positivity, and well-being. Join us in our mission to build a healthier, happier, and more connected world with Smiley!
