Inspiration

Did you ever host an awesome office party, but did not know what to do with all that party food? With Soirée, we aim to reduce food wastage in a commercial park via community effort, all the while connecting members through the exchange of easy and paperless contact info!

What it does

Using a camera, the user takes a picture of leftover shareable food and uploads it to the cloud. Other members will then receive a notification, informing them of the presence of available food.

Meanwhile, when members congregate to partake in the meal, they may use Soirée to facilitate the convenient exchange of paperless contact details through the use of QR codes! This would be done simply by scanning the code, and the information would be saved to your account for future use.

How we built it

The current version of Soirée is an Android-based application, built primarily on Android Studio.

Challenges we ran into

Our challenges include the decisions we have had to make regarding the direction of the application in a social app market filled with many fantastical and amazing concepts, as well as the choice of platforms and equipment with consideration to time, location, skill and technological constraints. Not to mention all of the lovely technical bugs we had to chase away from our creation!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to be able to conceptualize and create Soirée within the brief period of time given, especially one which promote commercial park resource optimization and community networking simultaneously. These are two very important ingredients to building a stronger, healthier and more prosperous workforce.

What we learned

We have learned many things from our amazing journey in developing Soirée, from the exposure to many other community-based apps during our search for inspiration, to the practice of coding for Android applications. In attending the Hackathon, we have also garnered knowledge and further practice on User Experience (UX), as well as agile coding and pitching!

What's next for Soirée

Some of the aspects we would currently like to work on are:

Expanding Soirée's availability to other platforms such as iOS;
Implementing data analytics to gauge community park preferences;
Improving food safety, and;
Adding further functionality to Soirée, thereby promoting its usage.

We aim to make Soirée the go-to App for bringing working communities closer together, the eco-friendly way! With continuous improvement and further engagement, we believe we can contribute to making a brighter future.
