🚀 Inspiration

Different movie ticketing sites are often difficult to browse and our group wanted to create a more pleasant and fun ticketing interactive for everyone! From wondering whether there would be enough time to purchase concessions, to having an inaccurate expectation from false movie ratings, SOLARECLIPS provides a memorable, user-friendly experience for people. SOLARECLIPS allows users to peruse different reviews and recommendations from fellow movie lovers, while also being able to socialize and buy movie tickets from the site itself!

🎬 What it does

SOLARECLIPS combines social media and movie ticketing into a single application. Our app allows movie enthusiasts to friend others, create reviews, buy movie tickets, receive movie and concession discounts, and have an overall pleasant experience within our site. Not only can our users create their own reviews, but they can explore other reviews and use our app to message others, which is easily accessible!

🛠 How we built it

We built SOLARECLIPS using HTML and CSS for front end and Django for back end. We also utilized Bootstrap for some pre-existing CSS and layout features due to the limitations of time.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into during this hackathon was using programming languages and environments we were unfamiliar or had limited experience with. We also struggled with integrating our code with different views and models, specifically Django and the HTML and CSS files. We also struggled with integrating the HTML functions with CSS and working with moving images and scrolling screen with different background images. Despite our challenges, we overcame them by communicating with one another when we were uncertain about specific deliverables and reached out for help when needed.

🥳 Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that our team had the opportunity to actively learn how to use HTML and CSS together to develop a web application. We are also proud that we stylistically implemented HackUNT’s theme into our application and collaborated and coordinated as a team to complete SOLARECLIPS.

💫 What we learned

Our project helped our team members learn about integration with the Django backend server and the HTML frontend as well as Bootstrap. Mei learned how to sort textboxes using CSS as well as HTML. Izzy learned how to have a scrolling page with two different background images and expanding her knowledge and skills using HTML and CSS in conjunction. Adittya learned about webpage development using HTML and CSS, and learned how to setup and use Django with the help of mentors and team members. Elijah learned how to integrate Django with Bootstrap to HTML as well as developing a full stack application

🕶 What's next for SOLARECLIPS

Although SOLARECLIPS is already a user-friendly application, there is much more we intend to expand upon! We hope to create a working point system where the user can track how many points they have and what they equate to as well as implement trailer and movie time data to better serve our users.
