Inspiration
Many of our members often learned much of what they know via online courses. Many group study platforms for online platforms don't provide a simple and efficient way to share notes and review content together. Additionally, educational resources aren't always accessible to everyone due to subscription costs, so Studyera solves that by providing a readily accessible platform.
What it does
Studyera helps remove discontinuity from many online study groups by giving people, usually taking the same online course, a platform to share resources. Furthermore, questions can also be added and interleaved within notes so users can quiz themselves easily while learning; this will help make self-study more interactive. A collection of notes and questions create a package, and a room contains a shared pool of packages from various sources. One or more users can also join a room to gain access to all of the packages there. Users can also create their own learning packages which is a useful tool for educators, and students can learn from those packages either individually or through the study rooms discussed earlier.
How we built it
We built Studyera using Flask and html5. We started by brainstorming various ideas before coding a starting website, then adding each feature.
Challenges we ran into
There were a few bugs that occurred while we were developing, which slowed down production. Furthermore, in the beginning, we didn't plan out our project entirely, which led to a few differences in our visions for the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the challenges and the time limit, we're proud of being able to put together an entire website together and completing most of what we hoped to finish. We're also proud of conquering the challenges we faced and making progress despite them.
What we learned
We learned quite a bit about Flask, get/post requests, jinja, and jquery. We also learned about the components of a website.
What's next for Studyera
The next feature we hope to implement soon is the ability for people to "go live" with questions from a variety of packages. The "go live" feature will allow a group of friends to use their competitive spirit to have fun while reviewing and learning material. We also hope to potentially integrate this into a synchronous classroom, where instead of students raising their hands and only one student can answer, each student can type out their answer. Finally, we hope to make packages even easier to create, further streamlining the process of sharing notes and questions.
