Check out our Target Bot

Inspiration

What do you need assistance finding something a huge department store like Target and you're not sure if the person wearing a red shirt is a Target employee or just someone who has a predilection for Target-colored shirts? Well, our solution is to ask someone who is always available to help you.

What it does

We've developed a bot that uses an inventory backend to direct customers to the items they are looking for. We've also integrated Dashbot.io to display analytics about which items are being searched most commonly and recently. Dashbot also allows the company to integrate a customer support team member to tap into the bot's conversation and sub in when the customer wants to talk to a real person.

How we built it

We built our on top of the Facebook Messenger platform to make the bot as available to the public as possible. We saw that Facebook Messenger would be the perfect partner for big retail companies like Target due to Facebook Messenger's 1.2 Billion users adoption.

Our backend is built with Node.js.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges we ran into was making a bot that followed our mapped conversation tree in a way that was smooth and flexible for our customers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We worked hard to find ways of making the bot versatile and flexible with natural language support and intent detection. Instead of just finding keyword matches, our bot detects intents based on natural language interpretation.
