Inspiration
The inspiration behind this project comes from the stigma within families, especially Hispanic families, to keep vital medical information an medical updates private. Often times, these important details are only shared in the most dire of circumstances when it is too late to properly address them. This can lead to extreme undo stress and question marks in terms of being asked questions like, "Does your family have a history of heart disease?"
What it does
Our application provides families with a secure and private space to share medical information within their family tree. Some family members may not wish to share such information with other members of the family and have the ability to be completely anonymous in their diagnosis and will simply alert the 'pod' that there is a new disease reported within the family. This reporting system will help to educate and inform 'pod members' of potential genetic health predispositions they may have. Our application also focuses on bridging the information gap between patient and providers and well other providers. Currently there exists no application for doctors to talk to each other in a reasonable amount of time about a patients recent diagnosis or treatment.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
We had some issues with attempting to create a tree data structure with Velo - only solution seemed to be to purchase premium; so we had to draft an example instead.
We also ran into issues involving correcting the styles in our Django project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We all got used to new tools and worked outside of our comfort zones and combine various elements of the development process to create a cohesive application.
What we learned
We learned how to use Velo to create a website for information regarding our application. As well, many on our team learned how to create html pages with styling.
What's next for TheeTree
Building out the provider side of the application to create a true 'all-in-one' application for families and doctors to now everything about patients health and treatment.
