Inspiration

We were inspired by the efforts of our local healthcare workers during this pandemic and we want to help flatten the curve as well. Their job is already hard enough caring for covid patients, so we wanted to help them by creating an accessible site to find out where to book appointments. As the number of cases continues to rise, we want to spread information regarding safe environments to spend your time during quarantine and how to do so safely.

What it does

Our project helps make booking vaccines, getting information and finding safe places to go during quarantine much simpler so anyone can use it. This allows for older people and less fluent English speakers to have an easier time accessing information. The chatbots give reliable info as well as an option of sending tailored information via courier.

How we built it

We used javascript, HTML and CSS to create the base of our website. Ada and Courier were used to make the chatbots and emailing functions.

Challenges we ran into

Connecting Courier and Ada was a long and tedious task, but we were able to implement them into our website and connect them to user emails eventually. We were able to overcome these challenges by using our available resources and working diligently.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of putting together such a good all-in-one website that can help Canadian citizens in a short amount of time. We are also proud of integrating Courier into Ada because we had no experience with these applications in the past.

What we learned

We learned how to use different APIs such as Courier and Ada and got a deeper understanding of integrating and embedding APIs into one another to create a more advanced program.

What's next for VacFo

Currently, VacFo is able to send specialized appointment information to the users and help simplify the vaccination process for everyone. We want to further this application by programming it to automatically register users for vaccines and remind them when it is time to get their second dose by working with users to make an appointment.
