Inspiration
I was inspired by the idea of repurposing a previous, goofy, just-for-fun game I'd made with friends, and making it into something that would be useful in an education setting.
How it works
The user chooses a physical object with a bright, distinct color, and moves it around. In doing this, they can annotate the image of the space!
Challenges I ran into
Adapting code to a new purpose is difficult, because you end up with a lot of dead code, and nothing ever works as easily as you expect it to.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This is my first hackathon, and I came here worried that I was underskilled compared to everyone else. While that may be true in some areas, I was able to use my own personal area of expertise to make something fun and interesting.
What I learned
I learned how to use Github! Also, I learned how to use PGraphics in Processing to create layers, and I got a more nuanced understanding of the different interactions between video captures and pgraphics in Processing.
What's next for Virtual Marker
I will probably put it online and make it available for anyone to play around with and use.
