Inspiration
There is no current method of tracking WatCard transactions. Many Waterloo students do not know the capabilities of their WatCard and they do not know how they should manage their finances
What it does
WatBank is an all-in-one platform for all Watcard needs. It tracks all transactions and displays them as a list or graph. In addition, it also computes predicted spending and lists general information about Watcard including where to spend your money, healthy food choices, and discount information.
How we built it
At first, we wanted to make WatBank as an Android or iOS app. However, as we started designing it, we thought that it would be more user-friendly if it was a website that students could use. We coded the website using HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.
Challenges we ran into
It was hard to communicate with one of our team members because he was in India while the rest of us were in Canada. Delegating tasks with different time zones was hard to do. In addition, switching from the app to a website for WatBank was
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our idea and what we've made since many first years would use this website. It was our first time making a website so we are content with the final product.
What we learned
Throughout this hackathon, we learned how to use Figma, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap to design how the website would look and code the website.
What's next for WatBank
In the future, we plan on creating a functional app that's compatible with both iOS and Android. When the final product is developed and released, we hope that it will be useful to the students at the University of Waterloo. In addition, we hope to integrate with UW Food Services app and create more categories to see how the spending is broken down.
