About the challenge
EcoCompute is a hackathon focused on building AI-powered applications that help protect, understand, or restore our environment. Participants will design intelligent solutions that address real-world environmental challenges, ranging from climate modeling and energy optimization to conservation, waste reduction, and sustainability tools.
What makes EcoCompute special is its emphasis on impact-driven AI: projects aren’t just technically impressive, they’re purposeful. Whether you’re using machine learning, computer vision, data science, or generative AI, the goal is to create technology that can make a measurable difference for the planet.
The environment faces complex, data-heavy problems, and AI is uniquely positioned to help solve them. Your challenge is to build an AI application that contributes positively to the environment or could realistically be used in an environmental context.
Your project can focus on (but is not limited to):
- Anything related to the environment
-
Climate and weather analysis
-
Renewable energy and efficiency
-
Wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation
-
Pollution monitoring or reduction
-
Sustainable cities, food systems, or resource use
Creativity is encouraged. If your AI helps the environment directly or enables better environmental decision-making, it fits EcoCompute.
Get started
-
Form a team (or work solo).
-
Identify a problem you care about.
-
Design and build an AI-driven solution to address it.
-
Document your idea, approach, and impact clearly on Devpost.
-
Submit your project before the deadline.
All skill levels are welcome; what matters most is thoughtful design, technical effort, and environmental impact.
Requirements
What to Build
You may make any app of any type, as long as it follows the submission requirements (uses AI to help the environment).
What to Submit
Your Devpost submission should include:
-
Project name & description: What your project does and the environmental problem it addresses
-
AI approach: How AI/ML is used (models, data, logic, etc.)
-
Impact: How this could help the environment in real-world use
-
Demo: Video, screenshots, or live demo showing your project working
-
Code or repo link: GitHub or equivalent (recommended, not required)
-
