About the challenge

Welcome to EquiHacks S1, hack.place()'s first ever hackathon. Not only are we offering nearly $6,500 in prizes—including one for every participant—but various workshops covering the latest in the tech space, opportunities to build connections with other hackers, and a special treat for Monmouth County residents.

Event Schedule (all times in EST):

October 20th

  • 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Opening ceremony
  • 6:00 PM: Hacking starts

October 21st

  • 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM: Workshops, Food, and Collaboration @ Mathnasium

October 22nd

  • 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM: More Workshops, Food, and Collaboration @ Mathnasium
  • 6:00 PM: Hacking ends, judging starts

October 23rd

  • 3:00 PM: Judging ends 
  • 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM: Project expos! People can present their projects.
  • 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM: Closing ceremony and prize distribution
  • 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM: A special treat for our participants!

Requirements

What to Build

Our theme is intentionally broad—you can build just about anything you want. Apps, websites, games, hardware projects, and machine learning are all fair game!

What to Submit

  • A 2-4 minute video demonstrating and explaining your project.
  • All code used to build the project, such as in a public Github repository.

  • Technical Difficulty
    How technically complex is the project? Does it employ pertinent technologies, languages, and/or frameworks? What skills were learned in the creation of the project?
  • Creativity
    How unique is this project? Have other people implemented similar ideas before? If so, does this project take a novel approach?
  • Presentation
    Is the presentation well-organized and easy to follow? Does it explain and sell the project effectively? Does the video keep viewers engaged?
  • Functionality
    What does the project do, and what features have been implemented? Is the project usable in its current state?
  • Theme
    How well does the project align with the hackathon's theme?
