- Untitled February 7, 2026 4:31 pmI guess the only problem with it is that it's not really standalone as a story, as it is part of a subseries of 8th/Charley stories that started in Storm Warning (BF16) and depends on information from that story (specifically who Charley is and what should have happened to her in that story)
- Untitled February 7, 2026 4:24 pmIn one rather darkly comedic scene two characters admit they might have been the murderer, but they aren't quite sure who of them did it so they both should be arrested, only to be told that their purported murder victim is still alive (in this timeloop it didn't happen) They decide that that's alright then.3/?
- Untitled February 7, 2026 4:21 pmI'm right now not sure if they already were relying on this a lot, but Chimes has this trope that someone keeps changing their memory of what happened and who they are as they keep talking. This is done very effectively here, but I have the feeling I've seen that particular twist before. In this case the servants of the house have a rather malleable memory that makes them unable to easily track what they are, what they do, and what happened.2/?
- Untitled February 7, 2026 4:12 pmBig Finish Doctor Who Monthly release no. 29 'The Chimes of Midnight' from 2002: The 8th Doctor and Charley end up in an Edwardian manor in 1906 instead of Singapore in 1930. It's Christmas Eve and at the top of the hour someone in the house dies, only for everything to reset at midnight. They are in a timeloop, and so are the servants, and something is manipulating things. This one is quite atmospheric and well-done, although it has a few tropes BF keeps relying on.1/?#doctorwho #audiodrama
- Untitled February 6, 2026 12:32 pmOk, looking for jobs now EU wide I come across an interesting problem: most people understand "remote working" as working from a place remote of the office i.e. home or wherever, but some German companies seem to think it means "travel to customer offices and work from there"Mind you, the job ads I notice that in are the ones that specify how the work is supposed to look like, it might be there's more that intend that meaning and don't say it.
- Untitled February 6, 2026 3:11 amSo Epstein might have had his hand in the creation of #Bitcoin as well, meaning the whole #crypto shit was used to fund a child sex ring for the scum of the world.I would be lying if I'd say I was surprised.https://futurism.com/future-society/cryptocurrency-jeffrey-epstein-bitcoin
- Untitled February 5, 2026 9:41 pmAltogether quite enjoyable. Not the best, mind you, I have some quibbles about character motivations and some of the plot points felt a bit derived, but I'm a sucker for the old trope of "aliens stuck on earth since stone age". But it definitely feels like Doctor Who and, as before, the lack of classic Who's rather crummy special effects allows my imagination to fill in rather more impressive visuals.
- Untitled February 5, 2026 8:55 pmThe whole plot is very reminiscent of the classic Who series (of course), but Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor gets his chance to get into his own in a way he never could in the TV series. Many people noticed that he is just as good as his contemporaries, but that his tenure really was stymied by bad production decisions.4/?
- Untitled February 5, 2026 8:51 pmA fogue or fougue (pronounced "foo-goo" as the audio taught me) is a type of iron age structure with nobody having a clue what it might be.Honestly, I didn't think I'd learn something with that, but here I am3/?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fogou
- Untitled February 5, 2026 8:50 pmIs there any time in any medium where a moor appeared and absolutely nothing weird was going on?I don't think so. Moors just attract weird stories like the Doctor does nonsensical plans of world domination. In this case it's connected with the survivor of an alien survey vessel in stasis under the fogue for 18.000 years, which was sending out weird psychic emanations into the surroundings.2/?
- Untitled February 5, 2026 8:46 pmBig Finish's Doctor Who Monthly release #9 from 2000: The Spectre of Lanyon Moor.I tried this one before and wasn't that impressed. This time I felt it was much more enjoyable, if a bit messy in details. The Doctor and Evelyn arrive in Cornwall, where an investigation of an Iron Age fogue gets them into contact with local archeologists and, it turns out, with the Doctor's old friend Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. It turns out something weird is happening on the moor.1/?#doctorwho #audiodrama
- Untitled February 5, 2026 6:25 pmI COULD get up and check the website on my computer instead. But I'm not going to.
- Untitled February 5, 2026 6:22 pmTrying to check out some movies to go to with my kids, as we are at my parents' place. Unfortunately the cinema in Bayreuth has the messiest program I've ever seen. Either they switched around some of the dates or they put in dates half a year in the future. There's a showing of Spaceballs advertised for 02.06., but the next movie is 28 Years Later on 07.02.Maybe that's a mistake, but a later showing (of classic Little Mole cartoons) is advertised for 20.09.
- Untitled February 5, 2026 11:52 amI honestly was surprised he is still alive. The whole mess made me forget he still exists.#uspolitics
- Untitled February 4, 2026 11:15 amIt occurs to me that people who have worked in IT support seem to have a rather more apprehensive approach to #AI than developers and management. For one, we were the ones that had to deal with stuff going wrong. For another: all the pushes towards AI use always sound like all these management initiatives that would shake stuff up for a year or so until people went back to working like before because it didn't work.
- Untitled February 2, 2026 3:33 pmOh wow, they actually pulled out the fire baskets for some of the tram/bus stops again. Haven't seen those since 2011 or so.
- Untitled February 2, 2026 1:55 pmThat company has the name Chronosphere, which is just the kind of name some company in Doctor Who might have before it's revealed it's all some dastardly plot by the Cybermen to... do something
- Untitled February 2, 2026 1:44 pmLinkedIn job description:In this role you will:* bring all the diverse and great aspects of your authentic self to work every day.Oh that's great, I was looking for a job that accepts a depressed curmudgeon like me and likes it.(To be fair, they only say you will bring your diverse and great aspects of your authentic self. I assume you have to leave them in a metaphorical locker though)
- Untitled February 2, 2026 1:38 pmOk. Maybe searching for new jobs my standards are too high.Maybe I should consider applying for one of those ghastly AI companies.
