Evan Torner (Ph.D., University of Massachusetts Amherst) is Associate Professor of German Studies at the University of Cincinnati, where he directs the Undergraduate German program as well as the UC Game Lab. He is head of Games curriculum for the BFA in Games and Animation.
Other titles he holds include:
• President of the College of Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Council (2024-2028)
• Co-founder and Senior Editor of Analog Game Studies
• Co-founder and organizer of The Golden Cobra Challenge
• Secretary of the Playable Theatre non-profit
• Editor of the International Journal of Role-Playing
• Former co-organizer of the Living Games Conference, Just a Little Lovin USA 2017, and the Odysseus larp.
His work is based on three core “pillars” of interest:
• German Studies
• Film Studies
• Game Studies
These are underpinned by four secondary “pillars” of interest
• History
• Philosophy
• Postcolonial/cultural studies
• Aesthetics.
