Esri is sponsoring an internal developer hackathon. Use ArcGIS Platform to come up with a project solution that will help new and existing developers solve real-world problems they are facing every day. The solution should illustrate how easy and effective it is to use the different parts of platform to solve the problem.
ArcGIS Platform uses a subset of the services of the ArcGIS system. These services include basemap layers, geocoding, routing, GeoEnrichment, spatial analysis, data hosting and feature services. For example, you can host your own content as feature services and read the data back as vector tiles. Since our initial launch we have had over 40,000 new developers utilize ArcGIS Platform for some amazing applications. Now we are eager to see what the great minds within Esri can do with it. Please join us and Hack the Map.
Use ArcGIS Platform location services, client APIs, and tools to solve a problem or provide a service through one of these three ways: a consumer app, an app for civic engagement, or an app that supports sustainability.
Dates
Monday, January 10 to Tuesday, January 18, 2022.
Location
Event location is Redlands M1-Triplex and virtually via online video conference for remote team participation. We will use Zoom and Slack.
Themes
· Sustainability – UN sustainability goals
· Citizen engagement (including racial equity)
· Consumer focus
It’s not just about building fancy desktop or mobile apps; it’s about showing how to use ArcGIS Platform in a simple, clear way to solve a real-world problem. Your app should be targeted for people who have no knowledge of GIS, yet are good developers. You want your app to help demonstrate the great capabilities of ArcGIS. Ultimately, we would like to use the app you create as showcase/model apps on the ArcGIS Developer website, Esri Developer Summit demos, and the Developer Experience outreach effort.
Requirements
Submissions will be judged on content developed during the hackathon submission period only. Any component developed before the hackathon submission period is not eligible for judging.
All teams must declare their participation by the submission deadline. No submissions or project updates are accepted after the submission deadline.
All project submissions are due by the submission deadline on DevPost and must complete all required project fields: title, elevator pitch (short description), technology used, link to public GitHub repository, all contributing team members, project description, and screenshots.
Project submissions must submit a 5-minute video presentation of their solution. The video must be submitted with the project by the submission deadline, and it must be accessible to the judges (no private YouTube videos, please).
All code must be submitted to a public GitHub repository and available for the judges and event organizers to access.
The submitted solution must build and run in a standalone app on a PC or Mac computer, in a simulator running on a PC or Mac computer, or it must run in a standard web browser.
If any additional hardware is used, it must be defined and demonstrated in the project description and in the presentation video. If additional hardware is required, it is the team's responsibility to make it available to the judges during the judging period, if the judges require it.
All projects submitted must use the ArcGIS Platform services and ArcGIS APIs in some way. Projects submitted that do not use ArcGIS Platform developer technology are not eligible for judging and prizes. Using any other services and APIs is acceptable, as long as the project includes ArcGIS Platform services.
All submissions must use only publicly released APIs, SDKs, software, and services. Beta software is accepted only if it is generally available to the public. Since the submissions are made to public GitHub repositories, and our goal is to show your project off on a public-facing website, we cannot accept submissions that use proprietary or internally available non-public components.
