About the challenge
Hacktivism is a hackathon for all students above the age of 13 with a focus on creating technological solutions for social good. Over the course of the event, participants will work in teams of 1-4 people to tackle real-world challenges, develop innovative projects, and learn from experienced mentors. We will have guest speakers educating participants throughout each section of the hackathon process, including ideation, development, and presentation. Hacktivism is a chance for students to use their coding and problem-solving skills to make a positive impact on their communities and beyond. We encourage participants from all backgrounds and skill levels to participate, and no technical experience is required! Hacktivism will allow participants to gain experience and skills while making an impactful difference in their communities.
Requirements
What to Build
Participants should create a project that makes an impact in their local or global communities. This could be anything from developing an app that helps reduce food waste to creating a community-driven initiative to improve mental health support and anything in between. However, make sure the project fits the judging criteria and rules! The project does not need to be extremely advanced or complex, but keep in mind that innovation and sustainability are key aspects that will be evaluated by the judges. Aim for a project that not only addresses a relevant issue but also provides a feasible and lasting solution.
What to Submit
The main submission for this hackathon is a video presentation. Here are the requirements:
- Length: The video must be under five minutes.
- Content: Clearly explain your project, highlighting its impact, innovation, feasibility, and sustainability. Include:
- An overview of the problem your project addresses.
- A demonstration of your solution and how it works.
- The potential impact on the community.
- Any future plans for scaling or sustaining the project.
- A description of the code and software (if applicable).
Make sure your video is engaging and concise, effectively communicating the essence of your project within the time limit.
Optional - You may submit your code, CAD, or any additional files in the submission. Alternatively, you may show and describe these files directly in your video.
