How a Birthday Promise and MacroFactor Helped JT Moore Find Consistency

Sometimes one decision is all it takes. JT Moore made a new start, trusted the process, and now he’s moving into the next phase of his life more confident than ever.

JT Moore, a 37-year-old husband, father, and public health professional, knows firsthand how important it is to take care of your health, but it wasn’t until his 36th birthday that he decided to get serious about his own.

“Throughout my adult life, I’ve had periods of physical fitness. I’ve participated in martial arts training, running, obstacle course races, and weight lifting, but I never maintained the motivation and dedication to be consistent. I would quickly succumb to laziness and bad habits, especially binge drinking,” he said.

Alcohol was the biggest Achilles’ heel for JT. On his 36th birthday, he decided he was done.

“The day after my 36th birthday, I finally decided to make a change and commit to it for good, so I quit drinking and soon began using MacroFactor,” he said.

Why MacroFactor?

JT understood the basics of healthy eating and mostly ate quality foods, but he was undoing a lot of that hard work on the weekends and never had a system that could really dial things in for him.

“Before using MacroFactor, I wouldn’t say that I ate poorly. I would eat quality foods, for the most part. My main problem was the excess calories from binge drinking. I had built up a serious tolerance and would be able to drink quite a lot over the course of an indulgent weekend and sometimes occasionally during the week,” he said.

For JT, the drinking quickly packed on the pounds and erased any progress he made during the week. He finally reached a point where he was fed up, and having been a Jeff Nippard fan for many years, he discovered MacroFactor through one of Jeff’s videos and decided to give it a try.

JT decided to follow a coached plan set by MacroFactor when he started his cut. He put his macros to “Balanced” and focused on losing fat first, then building muscle during maintenance.

“My initial goal was to lose weight, particularly fat, while attempting to maintain or increase my muscle mass through weight lifting,” he said. “I set my goal weight for a target I hadn’t been at in years and at first thought it might be a bit too difficult to reach. Soon though, I was hitting milestone after milestone, and within just a matter of months, I was approaching and eventually reached my goal weight.”

JT achieved his first round of goals, losing 29 pounds while gaining a decent amount of muscle along the way.

“I was beyond thrilled when I hit my target. I looked and felt better than I had in many years, and this gave me a level of confidence I hadn’t experienced in my entire life,” he said. “I then transitioned to a maintenance goal and have continued to add muscle while losing fat for a year, all while enjoying more food!”

Tips and thoughts from JT’s playbook

“I’ve used nutrition trackers in the past, but these were never very good at estimating (and updating!) my Caloric needs, let alone a lack of macro tracking. This resulted in poor or slow results, which quickly led to me not being consistent with tracking.”

“Whether it’s being consistent with tracking nutrition, consistent with weighing in, or consistent with whatever fitness method you prefer to increase or maintain your expenditure; this is what leads to results, and results are what keep you going!”

What’s next for JT?

JT is now following a maintenance program, building on the progress he made during his cut and pushing for even more recomposition.

“So far, I’ve been successful, though I recognize I may have to eventually transition to a bulk/cut method to continue seeing results. Regardless of the specific plan, I’ve developed a true love for fitness throughout this journey and am happier than I’ve ever been with how I look and feel,” he said.
