First Things First: What Is a Battery?

A Battery is a community-owned reward pool.

If it feels like AI suddenly became part of everyday life this year, that’s because it did.

Here are some of the biggest moments that defined AI this year.

AI Is Now Creatively Powerful… and Ubiquitous

One of the most fascinating shifts this year was the sheer growth of AI-driven creativity.

AI music generation tools have moved beyond novelty. Platforms like Suno, which uses generative AI models to compose songs based on text prompts, have not only grown in capability but exploded in output. These platforms are allegedly generating the equivalent of a million of tracks a day, comparable to large commercial music libraries.

It’s prompting relevant discussions about what new forms of creative expression look like in an AI-enabled age. The same goes for storytelling, design, and content creation across visual and audio media.

At the same time, AI is reshaping film production. Studios now use AI to visualize scenes before filming, turning weeks of pre-production into days. Directors can experiment more, creatives can iterate faster, and ideas that once felt too expensive to explore become possible.

AI Is Being Used to Help with Complex Human Work

This year also proved that AI isn’t just showing up for creative work or productivity hacks.

In Columbia, a judge made headlines for using ChatGPT to help review legal cases. It highlighted something important: AI is becoming a legitimate support tool even in high-stakes environments.

AI Is Here in Everyday Tools People Already Use

Most people use AI now without even thinking about it.

Email platforms summarize long threads.
Google Docs and Microsoft tools help draft, refine, and organize ideas.
Text messages suggest replies.
Calendars and notes get smarter in the background.

But they also highlighted how centralized the current landscape still is, with elite tech companies shaping much of the conversation and agenda.

Living Off Crypto | Part One

For most people, “living off crypto” sounds like an online legend, something meant for influencers or people who bought Bitcoin 12 years ago. It doesn’t feel like something normal people could do right now, in their real lives, with real bills and responsibilities.

But inside our community, there are people doing exactly that. Not someday. Not theoretically. Today.

For most people who are doing it today, living off crypto is not about abandoning the traditional financial system, it is about reorganizing how money flows. Crypto becomes the primary layer where value is stored, earned, or rewarded, while fiat is used strategically, often briefly, to handle transactions where crypto is not yet accepted.

Understanding that distinction is the first step to understanding how this is possible.

How Living Off Crypto Actually Works

Living off crypto does not require every merchant to accept cryptocurrency directly. Lots of people who live off crypto follow a simple flow:

They earn or receive crypto through work, rewards, buying from the market, or participation.
That crypto stays in Web3 systems instead of immediately going to a bank.
When bills are due that can’t be paid directly in crypto, they convert what they need into dollars.

This hybrid approach allows people to function in today’s economy without waiting for full global adoption.

Connect community member, Jake Dieterich, lives this model day to day. He earns crypto through the services he provides and through participation in blockchain ecosystems. When expenses come up, he converts a portion of that crypto into dollars to cover them.

To Jake, the misconception lies in thinking crypto must be spent directly to count:

“Living off of crypto can mean many things, but to me it is a means to support necessities and lifestyle whether crypto is directly or indirectly used. Many assume you have to find places that directly accept it to live off of it, but that’s just not true.”

Why People Don’t Start This Way

Most people don’t move into crypto-first living early, even if they believe in the technology. Common concerns include:

Banking and exchange restrictions
Fear of making irreversible mistakes
Complexity of wallets and self-custody
Lack of clear off-ramps

Jake delayed his transition for exactly these reasons.

I actually just recently started living 100% off crypto this year. I had a fear of fully jumping as banks were not friendly to cryptocurrency and all of the complications that came with exchanges.

What changed for Jake was infrastructure and confidence.

He points to two key shifts that finally put him over the edge:

A sense of relief about the banking/exchange fears, helped by clearer off-ramping options.
A desire to devote his time to real-world change and contribute to projects solving systemic problems.

He remarks:

“My fears of banking and exchange restrictions were relieved with world sentiment and the release of the Switch platform where I can now easily offramp to USD.”

These two changes made all the difference for Jake Dieterich.

What “Using Crypto in Real Life” Actually Looks Like

Crypto feels abstract until it intersects with everyday expenses. That is when it becomes real.

For a long time, using crypto in real life meant jumping through hoops. You earned it in one place, converted it somewhere else, and hoped nothing broke along the way.

Some projects in our ecosystem are changing that entirely.

Jake says:

“I look at living off of crypto as keeping your holdings in Web3 systems instead of Web2, where fiat is used only as a quick transaction medium. It’s almost like a game of hot potato where you only go into it for the short period of time to send it right out to get whatever it is that you need.”

Crypto In Your Daily Life

For a long time, crypto culture has centered around one idea: hold.

Do not sell. Do not touch it. Just wait.

That mindset makes sense if crypto is treated purely as an investment. But living off crypto asks a different question entirely. What is the point of value if it can never be used when life actually asks something of you?

That moment looks different for everyone. Sometimes it is not about optimization, yield, or timing the market. Sometimes it is about access. About being able to say yes to something that cannot be postponed.

That is where Denise’s story begins.

She was pregnant, living off savings, and facing a difficult choice: miss a once-in-a-lifetime family trip with her aunt who was nearing the end of her life, or return to work earlier than planned. The money wasn’t in her bank account. It was sitting in crypto she had earned but never used.

When talking about the experience, she reflects on the conversation with her husband that became the turning point for her.

“I wanted to go on this trip so bad, but I couldn’t dry up my savings! Not with a baby on the way. Then my husband says to me, ‘Why don’t you figure out how to sell your crypto?’ And I was like, my what?”

What followed was hours of self-education and uncertainty as Denise tried to figure out whether or not she was going to sell her crypto, and how to go about it.

“I spent hours and hours and hours watching YouTube videos… I taught myself how to do it.”

Selling some crypto changed everything for her. What she got in return was time, travel, and memories that could not be postponed.

“That trip literally is once in a lifetime. I can never, ever, ever recreate that trip again. And the only reason I got to go on that trip was because of crypto.”

Her story underscores a critical point: living off crypto does not always mean permanence. Sometimes it means liquidity when it matters most.

At the end of the interview, Denise concluded with this:

It’s not the rich of money. It’s the rich of the experience and the family, of the memories.

You Don’t Have to Be “All In” to Begin

A lot of people are somewhere in between. Crypto pays some bills, not all. Value is stored partly on-chain, partly off.

Another Connect community member, Lela, is clear about where she stands.

“I don’t totally live off crypto, yet. Headed there! I pay a few of my bills with crypto at the moment.”

Her approach emphasizes learning, security, and caution. Being in this stage is not a failure to commit, it is how most people begin and continue living off crypto.

In her own words, Lela believes:

“Things are changing, and we will all be living off crypto very soon!”

What Crypto Utility Looks Like Today

Each story in this piece shows the utility of crypto in a different real-life context.

For Jake, crypto’s utility supports ongoing income and everyday expenses, keeping value accessible and in motion rather than locked in traditional systems.

For Denise, crypto’s utility provides timely access to funds when a personal moment can’t wait, turning something digital into real-world experiences.

For Lela, crypto’s utility grows through consistent use, covering some bills while building confidence and familiarity over time.

Together, these experiences point to a broader shift where crypto value is moving away from being defined primarily by speculation and future price, and toward real utility in the present. Value begins to matter less for what it might become and more for what it can do.

That shift is closely tied to real-world utility and real-world assets. When crypto connects directly to electricity, food, or healthcare, it stops feeling abstract. It becomes infrastructure that supports real decisions in real life.

This is what living off crypto looks like right now. Not perfectly. Not everywhere. But practically, personally, and increasingly often.

What is HODLing?

In the early days of crypto, one misspelled word changed everything. In December 2013, a user on the BitcoinTalk forum tried to write “I AM HOLDING” during a chaotic price drop. It came out as “I AM HODLING.”

The internet ran with it.

What started as a typo quickly transformed into a cultural banner: a phrase people used to signal resilience, humor, and a refusal to panic during wild market swings.

What HODL Means Now

“HODL” evolved into Hold On for Dear Life, although that meaning came later. Today, it represents more than keeping a coin in your wallet.

It’s shorthand for staying steady when everything feels chaotic, resisting the urge to react emotionally, and zooming out to see long-term trends rather than short-term noise.

Why People Choose to HODL

People HODL for reasons that often have very little to do with traditional investment logic:

1. Belief in the Mission, the Impact, and the Technology

For many, blockchain represents a vision of an open, transparent, decentralized future, a mission people believe can genuinely make an impact. HODLing becomes a quiet commitment to that mission, a way of saying, “I think this technology matters, even if today looks messy.”

Across the digital landscape, crypto scammers are perfecting their disguises. They mimic official social media pages, design near-perfect replicas of trusted websites, and post as trusted leaders in the community, all in an effort to trick unsuspecting people out of their digital assets.

What once looked like obvious fraud now feels eerily convincing. With each passing season, their tricks grow sharper — and their reach, wider.

In the spirit of Halloween, let’s pull back the mask and take a closer look at the most common scams haunting the crypto space, and how to stay safe from their tricks.

👻 Trick #1: The Disappearing Profile

Scammers love to impersonate trusted projects. They’ll impersonate community pages, company accounts, and even team members by copying logos, create a nearly identical username, and replying to real posts pretending to offer rewards, giveaways, or “exclusive promos.”

👆🏼 How to Spot This as a Fake Profile:

The messaging has spelling and/or grammar errors (Galvan example from above: “Have you yet participated…”)
The username sometimes includes an extra letter, underscore, or number (look how they added an accent mark about the n).

The account has few followers or no real posts.
The account asks you to click a link or DM “to claim rewards.”

The Win Blockchain just wrapped up another community vote. So now comes the question: How does someone audit an on-chain vote?

The beauty of on-chain voting is that it’s transparent. That means that you don’t have to take anyone’s word for a voting outcome. You can check for yourself.

Every vote, every wallet, and every timestamp is recorded directly on-chain, meaning the data lives out in the open.

Maybe you want to double-check the final count or maybe you’re curious how many wallets participated. Whatever your reasoning, here’s how you can see it for yourself 👇🏼

Step 1: Go to the Smart Contract Page for the Proposal

For our most recent vote, you’ll find that smart contract here:

This is the Win Blockchain Block Explorer, the public dashboard where anyone can view on-chain activity. Every action that takes place on a smart contract is recorded here and visible to the community. Here is where you’ll see a list of the transactions for each smart contract.

When you open the smart contract for a recent proposal, you’ll see the list of transactions (140). In this case, most of these are votes submitted by verified node owner wallets, but you may also notice a few administrative transactions mixed in. These are part of the network’s normal operations and not counted as votes.

Step 2: Open a Transaction

Click on any transaction hash to open the full details (it looks like a long string of numbers and starts with 0x).

What is a transaction hash? Think of it like a digital receipt.

Once you click on the transaction hash, you’ll see this! To determine whether this transaction is a vote, check the “Status and Method” section. If you see the word vote there, that transaction represents a verified vote.

On this page, you’ll also find key details such as the wallet address that submitted the vote and the exact timestamp when it was recorded on-chain.

To see how this wallet voted, scroll down and click “View Details.” You’ll see something like this:

Step 3: Understand What You’re Seeing

It looks a bit technical, but don’t worry. Here’s how to read it.

Let’s focus on that “Decoded Input Data” section.

Here’s what it means:

“arg0" is the proposal number (which vote they were participating in)
“arg1" is their actual vote (more on this in Step 4)

In this case, this wallet voted 0 on Proposal #2. But what does 0 mean?

Step 4: Know What The Numbers Means

Each vote is recorded as a number:

So that means this wallet voted “Yes” to Proposal #2.

Step 5: Repeat

Every wallet that participated will show up in that list of transactions. You can click through each one, look at the vote, and confirm what they selected.

Because this is on-chain, nothing can be changed or hidden. It’s all right there, permanently recorded for anyone to see.

Why This Is So Cool

When most organizations say “we took a vote,” you just have to trust that the count was honest.

On the blockchain, you don’t have to trust. You can verify.

Every vote:

Is visible to the public
Can’t be deleted or altered
Comes directly from a verified node wallet

That’s what decentralization means in action — transparency built right in.

In Summary
