Eric Fulton — Why The Lord of the Rings Still Inspires Me

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings has been my favorite book for as long as I can remember. It’s far more than an epic fantasy; it’s a story about character, loyalty, and the power of perseverance — values that have guided me in business and life.

One of the lessons I return to often is the notion that real strength isn’t always loud or obvious. Frodo doesn’t seem like a hero. He’s not the strongest, the fastest, or the most skilled. But he’s brave in quiet ways. He endures, even when the path seems hopeless. That kind of strength — quiet, steady, rooted in purpose — is something I’ve tried to model as a leader.

I also relate deeply to Samwise Gamgee’s loyalty. As someone who built a business on relationships and long-term trust, Sam’s unwavering support of Frodo is a reminder of what it means to stand by others through thick and thin. I’ve always believed that success is better shared and earned with integrity, and this story underscores that truth.

Finally, The Lord of the Rings shows us that even the smallest actions can have world-changing impact. That philosophy has shaped how I mentor, how I manage, and how I engage with both my team and our clients. Greatness doesn’t require fanfare — it requires consistency, care, and belief in something bigger than yourself.

Eric Fulton
