As a web developer, you need to be familiar with a lot of tools and some of the common technologies. So when we say IDE, what does it mean?

It simply means an integrated development environment

So what actually is it?

Well, it is software that helps us to develop applications. Any software that helps us to code can be called an IDE.

So as it stands right now, we have one IDE, which is Visual Studio because it kind of helps us to code and develops applications.

Let’s be more specific about online IDEs, hence apart from Visual Studio or other text editors which we can download locally and use. Is there any way to code?

Yes.

And that is what you call the online IDE.

So in this blog, we will have a look at when to use an online IDE, why to use it, and then which tool are you going to use.

So let’s get started and have a look at a couple of them.

So the question is why do we need to use Online IDE over offline IDEs?

These are all dependent on certain scenarios.

So let’s talk about The Importance of the online IDE

First, it helps us to do what is called a live preview.

So for example, when I’m teaching or when I’m developing a certain application before I can allow my friends to view what I’m doing live unless I publish that application to some deployment platform or get help before that person can preview it by the online IDE, I will only share the link with my friends and that is it. And the person will see it live without installing any third-party packages or tools. That is easy!

So when I develop some applications or I want to give you some codes or quizzes, I will just share the link and you can have a look at how I did it with my code. And you can also send me what you’ve done, just a link, and see how you wrote your code and what your application also looks like.

That is easy, right?

That’s an advantage of the online IDE, over the offline IDEs.

Secondly, it also helps us with prototyping.

When you say prototyping. It simply means that if we don’t develop a certain application, we want to have a look at first day of how it’s going to be. For example, if one design, let’s say a button, we can use this to quickly just open it in and you’re good to go.

That is cool, right?

So it’s also used for testing.

And above all, it is used for collaboration

Meaning one person can work on the same project at the same time

But one caveat thing about online IDE is that we need the Internet to access it.

Let’s have a look at a couple of them.

So one of the IDE is what you call codesandbox.io

CodeSandBox is an online code editor and prototyping tool that makes creating and sharing web applications faster.

2. CodePen

CodePen is a social development environment for front-end designers and developers. Build and deploy a website, show off your work, build test cases to learn and debug, and find inspiration.

3. StackBlitz

StackBlitz is an online IDE where you can create Angular, React, and Vue projects quickly and easily in your browser. It automatically takes care of installing dependencies, compiling, bundling, hot reloading as you type, and much more.

And this is my favorite, where all these tools are based on user preferences, where code samples is popular and code pane as well. Why? Well, for StackBlitz, The interface is really easy and then it’s really fast.

That is based on my experience where we can explore some of these tools and see the one that you like best!

For me, the Favorite Component of the chapter was the section on Mistakes! All of Ankur Warikoo‘s mistakes were so relatable that I realized I was making the same ones in my twenties.

1. I feel the lack of money was the root cause of all our family problems. And once we have money, we would no longer longer have any problems. Our problems are the stories we tell ourselves of how everything will be fine once we get what we want — (Problems are just stories)
2. I ate shit, slept odd hours, maintained bad posture while constantly telling myself that I have tomorrow to fix all of this. An excuse is the distance between who you are and who you wish to be — (Avoid excuses)
3. I really tried hard to please people. I wanted them to like me, to think highly of me, to speak highly of me. If your happiness depends on external validation, then your happiness depends on something you do not control — (control your happiness)
4. I assumed if I speak well and speak confidently, it would cover up for the lack of content I have. You cannot lie on stage. The audience will always know what is within your heart — (speak real, straight, concise, not pointless)
5. I need to have a plan. A plan is the only way to get to any point in life. If you do not have a plan, you do not have any chance of getting anywhere. To not have a plan and be okay with it is the best plan — (great things happen without plan)
6. If I said something, wrote something, shared something, I felt dejected when no one cared, when no one responded, when no one commented. No one owes you their time and money. You earn it, every day, by the work you do — (don’t depend for your happiness)
7. I had to make money fast, buy my parents that house, buy that fancy car, that vacation. I had to make money fast, to buy stuff. Money can buy you stuff. But the biggest thing it buys is freedom. Including freedom from stuff — (money buys your freedom)
8. I assumed my work would speak for me. If I did well, people would give me what I deserved and what I wanted. I never asked for what I wanted! If you don’t ask, the answer is always no — (ask what you want, don’t wait)

TIP: The 20s should be used to discover yourself, as against stabilizing yourself. Meet as many people as you can, do as many jobs as you can, explore as many streams as you can. Find out what you are good at and what makes you happy. And then spend your 30s doing that.

Tremendous aspirations come with great responsibilities, and I intended to make my life a fairytale in my situation. It won’t be easy, of course. But, no matter how difficult it is, I overcome it with my drive to realize the goals I set for myself and to make the young me proud.

There is a lot you and I have been through thus far! But, like anyone else going through a quarter-life crisis, now that I’ve figured it all out and am one of the most powerful and happiest people on the planet, I’m trying to put it all down in the hopes that it may help someone else who is trying to figure it out.
