Tips To Effective Study: Active Recall

Everyone can resonate to times whereby you spend all night reading but once you get to the hall, YOU FORGET EVERYTHING!!! 🤦🏾‍♀️🥲

Here's the most highly effective reading technique just for you. 😊

This technique is known as Active Recall
It's a learning process whereby you stimulate your brain to dive deep and retrieve information which goes a long way to retain what you are reading

Often times, we tend to read our materials over and over again without properly knowing what the topic is all about. This is known as Passive reading or Cramming and MOST times, it never works 🥲🫠

Here's how you can practice active recall while studying 🙂
1. Divide what you are reading into sections, for instance each subtopic of a topic can make up a section.
2. Read to understand and not just to memorize. You can do this by relating real life senerios from your environment and beyond to relate to what you are reading
3. Recall what you've read by penning down what you remember in your own words. Do not peak into your book while doing this. The whole point is to force your brain to retrieve and retain information.
4. Quiz yourself. Answer Past questions without worrying about the result and if you have none, ask AI to generate questions from easy to a very difficult level.

Other creative ways to practice active recall are:
1. Teaching someone : It helps you remember things more easily at the long run.
2. Group Discussion: Reading becames more interesting when you study with friends
3. Mapping : As an artist, you could draw chats or diagrams that links to what you are studying
4. Storytelling : And if you are a writer like me, you can translate what you are reading into stories, poems or any method of writing you engage in.

To the people who have the ability to cram and still remember information, I hail you guys 🫡 but for those of us who forget everything we read easily, do this as often as you can and come back here to thank me in the comments. 🤗

Author : Grace Isu-Ogbonna
©️oucfacademia

Tips To Effective Study : The Pomodoro Method

If you’re like me who HATES reading school books cause you easily get bored and get distracted…

Well, I’ve got just the thing for you 😉
It's called the Pomodoro method.
It simply a study method that avoids you from getting easily distracted. It's to keep you focused and avoid burnout all the while having an effective study time.

So how does this work?
Easy! 😁

1. Pick the time duration for study. It could be 1 hour, 2 hours or 4 hours
2. Pick out the course you want to read on
3. Set your timer for 25 mins. During this time, you are giving 100% focus to what you are reading.
4. After 25 mins elapses, take a break for five minutes. Don't go to sleep or press your phone 😂😂😂. It'll ruin the process . Instead, move out from your seat, drink water or better still disturb your roomie 🌚🌚🌚
5. Repeat the process, till your study time is over.

Note: If you repeat the Pomodoro method 4 times and plan to read for more than 2 hrs, take a longer break of 15 to 20 mins before starting again.

So, the next time you pick up you want to study, try this method and see how it's of great help 🤗

Author: Grace Isu-Ogbonna

©️oucfacademia
