We’ve added full compatibility with macOS Sequoia.

What changed?

Release notes

Added full compatibility with macOS Sequoia!

Improved onboarding flow

Minor fixes and enhancements

👉 We strongly recommend updating to macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later, as this update include critical fixes for Sequoia-specific issues that may impact overall network stability. If you are running an older version of macOS Sequoia, we recommend disabling the built-in macOS Firewall, which is known to cause issues. You can do that by going to System Settings > Network > Firewall. The security of your system should not be affected, since TripMode acts as a de-facto firewall anyways, and a more powerful one than Apple’s.

How to get the TripMode update?

If you downloaded TripMode directly from our website, you should get prompted to get the update.

This update addresses an imporant compatibility issue with macOS Sonoma 14.4. If you’re a TripMode profiles user, or if you simply use your iPhone hotspot with your Mac, you know how important it is that TripMode starts filtering your data the way you want it to, the second you connect to a network.

What’s new

With this update, we ensure that this experience continues to work reliably with the latest macOS Sonoma release 14.4, and beyond.

After the update, you might notice a new system popup asking for a Location Services permission. TripMode is there to put the control of your data back into your hands, showing you all the apps that try to access the internet, how much data they use, what domains they connect to, to help you decide what to allow or deny with a click.

We started out TripMode to avoid reaching painfully low mobile data plans limits too fast, and since then its community of users are using it in a variety of additional, everyday internet traffic use cases: to control and monitor your data, to improve the speed of your downloads, the quality of your zoom calls on poor Wi-Fi networks, to stream without stutters, to prevent ISP throttling, and more.

The best part: it’s dead easy to use and comes in a beautiful macOS interface that looks like an iPhone app. You’d even think Apple took some inspiration from it for its Apple Vision UI styling.

TripMode coming soon to your Apple Vision Pro? 🤞

As macOS Sonoma is still in beta, quirks can happen, therefore don’t install macOS beta software unless you have to, and make sure you understand the risks.

What else in this version? Accessibility!

VoiceOver support was improved in TripMode 3.2.2, that should now support all main TripMode features. That’s long overdue, thank you for your patience. Do let us know if you spot improvements or have suggestions. We do read all feedback and take it into account when we plan updates.

How to get the update?

If you downloaded TripMode from our website, you should get prompted to get the update. This was a much requested feature, that that come in handy if you want to keep TripMode open on the side of your screen while you work. You’ll get to see all your network activity in real time.

Completely reworked popover look and feel: The TripMode popover now takes cues from the modern style of macOS Big Sur and Monterey, is detachable / re-attachable, its position, size and attachment state are saved between launches for more convenience.

Improved apps coalescing: with better XPC services hierarchy detection, matching closely what you will see in Activity Monitor.

Added automated license activation for scripted deployments, based on defaults key entries. This works with licensed-based TripMode purchases done via our website. To use that, simply set the following commands (without the brackets), e.g. via a script running as the target user:

defaults write ch.tripmode.TripMode LicenseEmail <purchase@email.com>

defaults write ch.tripmode.TripMode LicenseCode <license code>

Made the advanced uninstallation process easier, with a new Network Extension GUI uninstall dialog.

Fixes

Improved the upgrade process to avoid requiring user intervention during the Network Extension upgrade

Fixed missing checkboxes glitches in the main UI and in the Profile preferences

Fixed a rare case where incorrect application states were applied when using multiple profiles

The profile metering usage bar appears in all cases as soon as the limit is active

Fixed a case where a corrupted session end (in case of UI crash / kill) could no be cleared from the history database

Fixed a data history aggregation issue that could arise from a daylight saving time or a timezone change

If you like TripMode and the new updates that we’re introducing, please take a minute and leave us a review on the Mac App Store.
