Lethal One was originally an L.A. graffiti artist. Started DJ-ing and playing acid techno on vinyl in 1996. Yes, that's right, playing Acid Techno from day one. Lethal one (real name Jose Rodriguez) was convinced to go to raves by his old school high school homeboy Tony who was also an L.A. graffiti artist. The homeboy Tony was a Dj (who went by the name Ntense) for the legendary L.A. old school crew Technostate. After many late night graffiti missions Tony convinced Lethal One to start going out with him to his warehouse Techno parties. On day one he was told to put this little white square piece of paper with a smiley face under his tongue for a few minutes, to let the magic kick in. The magic definitely started kicking in and that's when a new world was introduced to Lethal One, and yes, the man was hooked! On the sound of course, not the substance! LOL! The sound that grabbed his attention the most that night was a weird squelchy sound that we all have come to know as acid! The next day, after being out all night, Lethal One told his homeboy Tony (Ntense) "I need to get some 1200 decks asap!" Within weeks of that memorable first night out, Lethal One was able to score some Technics 1200 decks dirt cheap from a a local pawn shop. The Vestax 3 channel PMC-17A mixer came next. From there on, every dollar and cent was blown on acid techno vinyl purchased from vinyl shops in L.A. and Orange County. After a couple of years of playing underground warehouse parties, Lethal One had to step back from the party scene due to health issues. In late 2006, after just recently getting married 1 1/2 years ealier, and now fully recovered from the health issues, Lethal One was convinced by another old school friend, Luis (who went by the dj name Meanstreak from the L.A. Audio Science crew) to start going out again and start DJ-ing again. At this time, now financially more stable, Lethal One decided to come back not only as a DJ, but also as a new producer too. So in January 2007 Lethal One bought his first piece of gear. The Roland MV-8800 workstation, followed by a Roland TB-303. A new addiction started. Yes, the G.A.S. aka Gear Acquisition Syndrome! The house garage was converted into a fully treated all analog studio filled up with a ton of classic production gear. Around this time, Lethal One became good friend's with one of the original Technostate founders from the early 90's, Dennis Moore who was absent from the rave scene for most of Lethal One's early days. Dennis Moore was one of the main guys to believe in the Acid Techno vision Lethal One had. The dream was to start throwing events with more of a 90's edge type of sound. Together with Dennis Moore in the early 2010's they started to throw events with prominent British Acid Techno artist like DDR and Sterling Moss along with other L.A. local DJ's. In the summer of 2013 Lethal One got his first British gig in the East Midlands of England. During that first visit to England, Lethal One met up with Chris Liberator in London to talk about Acid Techno of course. The idea of wanting to fulfill the dream of creating an Acid Techno label was brought up during that conversation. When Lethal One arrived back home from England, he decided to pull the trigger and create the OFFICIAL record label. In 2014 the first OFFICIAL record was released and the rest was history. The Official label pumped out a lot of acid techno classics including the ultra super classic collab track "Sylmar Acid Test" with Lethal One and Henry Cullen aka Secret Hero aka Dave The Drummer. Since 2014, Lethal One has been consistently going back to England. He's played at events such as the Boomtown Festival, the Illusive Festival, the Stay Up Forever 30 year anniversary event and plenty of other banging parties.
It's 2026 now, and Lethal One is still pushing. He's had a ton of tracks released under his belt throughout the years on his own label OFFICIAL and on other banging labels such as Planet Techno, Planet Acid Techno, SUF SuperLimited, Triple A, Stay Up Forever & Choci Chewns, VCF, AcidLab, and Interstate One. Knocked out collaborations with artist legends like Henry Cullen aka Secret Hero aka Dave The Drummer, Chris Liberator, Sterling Moss, DDR, Geezer, and Choci. There's plenty more new acid techno tunes pending in the pipeline. Can't wait to hear what's new? The solution is easy. Go to any event that Lethal One is playing at and you'll hear a ton of unreleased upcoming new tracks before they get released!
