The time for Becoming

The Good News this Week is quite bittersweet as we gear up to celebrate and send out our soon-to-be graduates. This is one of the hardest parts about campus ministry because 4 years does not feel like a long enough time!

And yet, we also know that there is a time for everything, even when those things bring a lot of mixed emotions, such as the post-college transition. I think a significant part of our calling, though, is recognizing that we cannot remain stagnant forever; we must allow the Spirit of God to change us and compel us in new ways. Some of those ways feel very natural, like a graduation! But many of those ways are quieter, stemming from a slow evolution of becoming.

We are all becoming something new everyday. But the question remains, will we allow ourselves to become that new thing? Will we open ourselves up to the possibility of doing something we never thought we would do or be or say?

Will we speak when the time calls for it? Will we do the next scary thing that we know is right? Will we do the hard thing when others take the easy route?

For such a time as this, may we embrace our becoming and allow it to transform ourselves and the world!
