VA Healthcare | December 2025

VA political appointees quietly eliminated 26,000 jobs from VHA healthcare facilities at the end of last year.

More than 10,000 of those cuts were in occupations where the same facility had already reported a severe staffing shortage.

VA leadership knew these facilities were understaffed. They cut those positions anyway.

Example

In August 2025 the Durham VA Medical Center in North Carolina reported a severe staffing shortage of psychologists.

Four months later, VA appointees cut 18 psychologist positions there — while new patient wait times were over twice the VA's own target.

This pattern has repeated more than 10,000 times at facilities across all 50 states.
