  • “That’s how we protect kids: one conversation at a time.” - Brock Murphy, Co-Founder & CEO, Parent ProTech Parent ProTech and Kalshi are working to help parents understand #predictionmarkets, so they are empowered to start the conversation with and keep kids off financial exchanges built for users 18 and older. “A prediction market turns a guess about a future event into a #financial transaction. A child might encounter one through sports coverage, social media, influencers, news, or a shared device without searching for it.” - A quote from the “Parent’s Guide to Prediction Markets” We want to empower families to understand the risks, recognize the signs, and take action at home. That’s why we created a short overview of what prediction markets are, how kids come across them, and the practical steps families can take at home to keep them off these platforms. Luana Lopes Lara, Kalshi’s Co-Founder and COO, says: “You need to be over 18 to participate. And that's very important for us.” Our free “Parent’s Guide to Prediction Markets” helps families understand: 🔹 How event contracts work, and the impact of putting money behind a prediction. 🔹 Why constant updates, shifting prices, and competition can draw young people in. 🔹 Where kids may come across prediction markets, even without an account of their own. 🔹 How to set boundaries, secure shared #devices and accounts, and start a conversation. • How many notifications do you think teenagers get in one day on average? 🤨 📱 Daily Range: The median is 237 - Some teens receive over 500 to 4,500+ notifications daily. 🏫 School Hours: About 23% arrive during typical school hours. 🛌 Nighttime Hours: About 5% arrive overnight, and 59% of teens use their phones between midnight and 5:00 AM on school nights. When I first read those numbers I was SHOCKED. Then I looked at my own notification count…246 notifications in one day. 😳🤯 Now, this is something that parents and kids can manage in their device settings, but what about teachers? How do teachers manage classrooms where devices are constantly pinging for attention through various apps? 🤔 This was part of the discussion our team had with educators at the #LCMS All Workers Conference. I had the honor of presenting at The LCMS Foundation Rocky Mountain All Workers Conference in Breckenridge for Parent ProTech. 👉 We talked about what we can offer students instead of phone time, what challenges students are facing with sextortion, nudity apps, cyber bullying, social media pressure, and more. It was insightful, inspiring and engaging to see the passion these educators had for their students and the investment they had in the Parent ProTech platform. 🤝 🚀 Our mission extends to all aspects of empowering communities to navigate tech safely. It starts with small, practical steps. Want to learn more? Go to ParentProTech.com 💻

“A kid can’t deal with a scary situation online and a scary parent at the same time.” — Evan Harris, President of Pathos When a student is targeted by a deepfake, the way adults respond matters. But how do kids get into scary situations with deepfakes? In this episode of The Tech Translator, Parent ProTech's Jordan Soto sits down with Evan Harris, President of Pathos Consulting Group, to discuss #deepfake #bullying, “nudify” apps, and how families and #schools can support students affected by #AI-generated images. Together, they explore: 🔹 How #deepfakes and “#nudify” apps are showing up in children's lives 🔹 Why fake images can cause real harm 🔹 How seemingly small things like your voicemail can contribute to a deepfake scam 🔹 How #parents and #educators can respond 🔹 How to help young people feel safe asking a trusted adult for support Our goal is to help adults feel informed and prepared, so young people know they don’t have to face a difficult situation alone. 👉 Watch the full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/gKeFdstQ

Why screens are causing eye health problems in kids? And what is myopia? If you're asking these questions, you're not alone. 👇 Parent ProTech Co-Founder and CEO, Brock Murphy, sat down with Acting U.S. Surgeon General, Stephanie Haridopolos, MD, DABFM, for an interview following the Live Real Life Symposium in Washington, D.C. to discuss the growing concern for young people about eye health and myopia. ☝ Rising rates of nearsightedness (myopia) in children are tied to screen time, but there are some practical preventative habits like the 20-20-20 rule. • Our mission? To equip your family and community to safely navigate technology. 👩💻 👨💻 Our team partnered with Elevation Church in North Carolina this past week to speak to the challenges and opportunities technology has on children today. 📱 💻 Keeping up with the latest platforms, devices, settings and trends can be overwhelming for parents, that's why we emphasize the importance of community, communication and trust. Because parents don't have to experts and all-knowing, we just need to know the right questions and conversations to have. ☝ The biggest safety tool a child has is the trusted adult, and we hope our presentation gives parents that starting point to build a safer experience for children online. Thank you Elevation Church for having us, we're grateful for the opportunity! Until next time. 💙

  • “The best memories in life are not on screens.” But for today’s families, screens have found their way into nearly every part of life from school and entertainment to friendships...and even emotional support. 🤔 So, how do we help children experience the benefits of technology without letting it crowd out the people, activities, and moments that matter most? Following the Live Real Life Symposium in Washington, D.C., Parent ProTech Co-Founder + CEO Brock Murphy sat down with Acting Surgeon General Stephanie Haridopolos, MD, DABFM, for an honest conversation about the growing influence of screens on children and teens. ☝ Together, they unpacked the U.S. Surgeon General’s Harms of Screen Use Advisory, what current research tells us, where more research is needed, and what families can begin doing today. In this episode, they discuss: 🔹 How screen use may affect children physically, cognitively, behaviorally, and academically 🔹 Myopia, eye health, and the practical 20-20-20 rule 🔹 Emerging risks involving AI companion chatbots, sextortion, and online gambling 🔹 The “five D’s” for creating healthier technology habits 🔹 Why replacing screen habits may be more effective than simply removing a device 🔹 How parents can model a healthier relationship with technology "The goal isn’t to create fear or eliminate every screen. It’s to give families clearer information, practical tools, and the confidence to make choices that work for them." 👉 Because healthy technology use isn’t only about spending less time online. It’s about creating more room to live real life. Watch the full conversation: https://lnkd.in/eD6xFDaW

  • When we look at our devices, it's easy to forget that behind every notification and scroll feed is a multi-billion-dollar business model built to keep our attention. 👀 🔹 "If we don't intentionally decide where #technology belongs in our homes, algorithms will make that choice for us by stealing children's attention span while increasing anxiety." Author and advocate Jedd Medefind, President of the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) joins Jordan Soto on "The Tech Translator" to empower families to "rule their #tech before it rules them". In the podcast Jedd discusses how right-sizing screen time can protect attentional focus, reduce youth anxiety, and restore deep connection at home. 👉 Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gVez_B4A
