Inspiration
The idea for this project came from a personal struggle with phone addiction and mindless social media scrolling. Like many people, I often found myself opening apps like Instagram without any real intention — only to lose 30 minutes without noticing. While existing screen-time blockers are helpful, they tend to be rigid and binary: either full access or no access at all.
I wanted to build something more human — a system that understands why you want to use an app and helps you make a more conscious decision rather than simply blocking it.
What I Learned
This project pushed me to explore several new areas, including:
- Designing AI systems that take context and user behavior into account
- Building permission-based app access flows
- Applying principles from behavioral psychology and habit formation
- Creating user-friendly experiences for behavior change tools
I also learned how difficult — but important — it is to balance control and autonomy when building tools that influence personal habits.
