Steven's Surprise Utah Visit

These are just a few pictures that Steven took while he got to spend the evening with his family on his surprise (to everyone but us) visit to Utah.
This is his mom's computer at work, I think she might miss them a little.

Our cute nephews CJ and his little brother Wyatt.

Steven got to meet and hold Wyatt for the first time while he was there and I was super jealous! I can't wait to meet this little guy.

I was really glad that Steven got to see and celebrate his new job with his family while he was there.

What a Week

Warning: Long Post Ahead
(mainly for my own journaling purposes)

It's been a roller-coaster kind of week for us and it all started last Saturday on the 22nd when Steven flew out to Utah for a job interview. He applied for a Technical Director position with the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater company about 2 weeks before that. The same day he submitted his application they called his references and people that had worked for them and knew Steven. By that night they called him and wanted to know how fast he could get on a plane! Apparently, they were given rave reviews about Steven from all that knows him! It sent us through a whirlwind to say the least. The next thing we knew we were discussing the possibility of moving back to Utah, but at the same time trying not to get to excited about it. We made the decision not to tell anyone until we knew how it would turn out, we didn't want to get our families hopes up too only to have it taken away.
So Steven flew out there on the 22nd arriving in SLC around 1:00 and then drove up to Logan. He met with a realtor that we'd been talking with later that evening and he showed him around the town. The following day he went out with the realtor again and looked at several houses for sale. At the time we were really thinking it would be great to just buy a house right away and then we wouldn't have to move twice. Reality finally hit though and we realized that buying a house while living in another state, and having only Steven see it was really not such a great idea. It did however give Steven a good idea of the town and where we can focus our house hunt in the future.
Monday the 24th Steven had his interview with UFOMT and as I had suspected it was pretty much just a formality. Steven said it wasn't much of an "interview" so much as just showing him around, meeting everyone, and seeing what they were all about. They offered him the job while he was there, but the salary they offered him initially was lower than we'd expected. Steven had told them what he was hoping for and they met him half way and he left telling them he'd have to think about it (and consult with his wife of course). Not long after he had left he called me and while we were talking about whether or not he should accept the position they called him back. They said the salary he wanted wasn't unreasonable and they offered him what he wanted. Eeeeek! When he called me back and told me we both just wanted to scream we were so excited. Our decision was super easy at that point and we couldn't wait to tell our family that we were going to be moving back to Utah and soon!
Steven actually drove from Logan to his mom's work and surprised her with his presence and the good news. From what I'm told she was super excited and a few tears were shed. Meanwhile I was going nuts being at home with the kids and unable to get a hold of my parents who weren't home at the time. I later found out when I finally got a hold of them on the phone that both of their cell phones were dead, they had one of them plugged into the car when I finally got to talk to them. I made my mom put me on speaker phone so they could both hear the news at the same time. Before I could tell them though my mom said that it was to early to be expecting again! Uh, yes mom it is, and no I'm not pregnant!! There were some screams and some crying going on when I was finally able to tell them we were moving back to Utah. It was a very happy moment.
Steven stayed Monday night at his parents house and was able to see all of his siblings while he was there. He also got to meet our new little nephew Wyatt for the first time! The next morning he was on a plane back home. I also had to work Tuesday, but Steven's flight got in early enough that he was able to go pick up the kids from the babysitter and take them home. This was the hard part because we hadn't seen each other in like 5 days and I got home a little after midnight and all I wanted to do was talk to him about everything that took place, but we were both exhausted so it had to wait.
Now that we knew we were moving we figured we'd better hurry and see all the doctors we needed to before our insurance was changed. So Tuesday Steven dropped by the dentists office on his way home from work so they could look at his crown that has been causing him lots of pain since he had it placed over 2 months ago. They told him he needed a root canal and because they had some cancellations they asked if he could do it right then. It caught us both off guard, but he ended up staying so he could just get it over with. He didn't end up getting home till after 8, he was starving after skipping dinner, but his mouth was all numb so it was hard for him to eat anything.
Wednesday the 26th I finally got to really see Steven and talk to him about the interview, our move, and all that good stuff. Thursday I had to work again which meant I didn't really see Steven again until he came home from work Friday evening. Friday morning the kids and I also went visiting teaching getting done just in time to come home for lunch and take a nap.
Saturday morning Emma woke up just before 6 so I was up nursing her in the rocker which is in the back corner of our room. Soon after I'd started feeding Emma, I heard Mason talking under the door letting us know he was awake too. Meanwhile, Steven had gotten up to go to the bathroom and when he came out he kind of fell onto the bed. It was dark and I didn't have my glasses on so I  couldn't see him, but I could here him groaning. At first I thought he was just grumbling because Mason was up so early, which meant there was no going back to bed. However, after a minute or two of hearing him still groaning, and seeing that he wasn't going to get Mason I asked him what was wrong. All he could tell me that he was having a super sharp pain on his left side, like someone was stabbing him in the back. He could barely talk because the pain was so intense, and although I'm not one to rush to the ER, I knew immediately that's what we needed to do. I flew into action getting myself and both kids dressed, and then went to help Steven get dressed who at this point was sitting in the rocker clutching his side and still in so much pain. Poor Mason didn't understand what was going on and kept trying to talk to his daddy. Then when I told him that he had to get his shoes on so we could leave, he started whining because he hadn't had his breakfast first! After promising him that I would get him breakfast later he finally calmed down and let me put his shoes on. Meanwhile Steven had been able to make it out to the car on his own and I raced out to get the kids buckled in. It was about 20 minutes to the hospital and of course we missed a turn and had to do a u-turn. I was grateful that it was 6 in the morning on a Saturday so there wasn't much traffic, because I wasn't really sure where I was going. Anyhow, we finally made it to the ER and I dropped Steven off at the doors, then me and the kids parked the car and met up with him later. When we got to the waiting room they had him in triage, where I later learned that he threw up because the pain was so bad. They took him back to a room to get an IV started, which the nurse messed up in his left hand and then dug around in his right hand before getting it in. How she messed up an IV on him I don't understand because he's got HUGE veins....let's just say it's a good thing I was still in the waiting room during all this. I was busy getting Mason and I breakfast from the vending machine and keeping Emma happy in her stroller. Once Mason was done eating I asked to go back and be with him. They had just given him some pain medication (morphine 8mg &Tordal 30mg), he was still in quite a bit of pain, but seemed a little better. Shortly after I got back there with him they took him for a CT scan which later confirmed my suspicions that it was a kidney stone. When he got back he was still in pain and they gave him some additional morphine. The 2nd dose seemed to do the trick and made him more comfortable. We waited around for awhile before the doctor finally came in to talk to us about the CT results. He couldn't have come at a more awkward moment though, Steven was standing at the side of the bed trying to use the urinal and I was nursing Emma. I tried to imply that this was a bad time when he came in, but he just pushed back the curtain and started rattling off results, home care & follow-up instructions. I was so annoyed with him that I couldn't even pay attention to what he was saying, and of course it was super awkward for Steven so he didn't remember hardly anything either. Soon after the doctor left they started getting him ready to be discharged. They gave him a couple percocet, a muffin to eat, pulled his IV out, let him get dressed and then gave us his discharge paperwork and prescriptions.
Then we were headed home where I dropped Steven off to sleep on the couch while I ran to fill his prescriptions and get some groceries since we had no food in our house. Thankfully both the kids were really good for me at the store and I was able to get in and out pretty quick. The rest of our day was spent lounging around the house trying to let Steven rest. He was pretty drugged up for most of the day and still really sore. Later that evening he was finally able to pass the stone and began to feel a little better. Today he remained sore and since he had to work later today he stayed home from church to rest a little longer. The kids and I went to church and started to break the news to the ward of our upcoming move. Most said they were excited for us, but sad to see us leave. I'm kind of feeling the same way. Anyhow, it's been a very long stressful week for us and I'm hoping the roller-coaster is over for now.

Emma's Space

Since we live in a 2 bedroom townhouse and Emma has to share a room with us I didn't get to decorate a cute nursery for her, but I tried to create a little space just for her. This is pretty much all she gets though, her crib and the wall above it! Someday we'll get to give her her own room and decorate it much cuter, but this works for now.

Allen Pond with Tiffany

Image
Today I finally got to meet up with my friend Tiffany after not seeing her for over 4 months! Tiffany was one of my coworkers in the ED at UMC, but she is now working in the NICU. I was so sad because her last week in the ED was literally the week before I came back from maternity leave! Anyhow, we've been trying to meet up for months now and it just hasn't worked out until today. We met up at Allen Pond in Bowie and it was a beautiful day for it. I packed the kids into the double stroller and we walked the trail around the lake and played catch-up with each other. It was so great to talk with her again, and I realized just how much I miss her at work! We stopped so Mason could feed bread to the geese, and at the playground so he could play. This also gave Tiffany time to finally hold miss Emma, or "Emma Wemma" as she calls her. The kids were doing well and I wasn't ready to say good-bye to Tiff yet so we made one more lap around the lake, but about half way through Emma was over it and started crying. I'd pushed my luck to far and thus it was time for us to leave. I realized today that although I'm super excited about moving back to Utah and closer to family, I'm really sad to be leaving some good friends here. If I've learned anything from all our moving around it's that maintaining long-distance friendships is hard, and unfortunately most of them fade away. I'm hoping that won't be the case with many of the friends I've made here in Maryland!

Emma 4 Months Old

Can hardly believe she is already a month older! She is growing and changing so much everyday.
Emma at 4 months old!
Image
She is wearing 3-6 month clothes, and size 3 diapers
She still LOVES her baths and getting her clothes off
She loves to watch whatever big brother Mason is doing
She is a very happy baby at home and usually only fusses when she is tired or hungry.
Image
She still has some bad days with the babysitter where she either won't take her bottles or won't sleep. I think a lot of it is due to all the stimulation she gets there with 4 kids under the age of 2!
She seems to like the woombie we got her to sleep in, and we like it because we don't have to constantly reswaddle her.
Image
However, despite the woombie investment she still isn't a great sleeper at night. She generally eats and goes to bed around 8 pm. She will sleep good until 11:30-12ish and then is up to eat. She eats and goes right back to sleep, but after this feeding she wakes up about every 2 hours or more needing her binky back. She usually eats again around 3:30-4, and by 6 I end up sharing my pillow with her where she will typically sleep until 7 before she is wide awake and ready to get up.
Even though she is awake at 7, I don't feed her again until 8. By 8:30-9 she is ready for a nap. She always sleeps well the first hour of her nap and then after that needs to be given her binky several times to keep sleeping.
She is also particular about how she sleeps. She likes to sleep on her side, snuggled into a pillow (I know it's awful, but it's literally the only way she will sleep!!) There are even times that I will lay her down on one side and she will squirm around and fuss, so I will switch her to the other side and she will go right to sleep! The girl knows what she likes!
ImageImage
She eats again at 12 and 4 and usually takes a nap from 1-3.
She loves to sit up and watch whats going on
She loves to suck on her fingers or the side of her hand.
She loves to have people talk to her and is very smiley when you give her attention
She is getting better at grabbing and holding onto her toys.
She still doesn't like belly time and only lasts about 5 minutes if that.
She's not rolling over yet, but has started to twist her upper body when she is on her back so I don't think it will be much longer before she figures it out.
When we aren't home and I'm trying to get her to sleep the only way I can get her to fall asleep is if she is up over my shoulder.
Well that's Emma at 4 months old. She has her well check on the 19th and I will update her height and weight then.
Image
Mason wanted to have a picture with Emma, but judging by the look on her face I'm not sure she liked sharing the spotlight with him!

Dinosaurs

Steven took Mason with him to do the grocery shopping this morning before I had to leave for work and they came home with this new toy for Mason. They looked like little pill capsules that then turned into spongy dinosaurs once you put them in water. As you can see Mason was loving making dinosaurs.

Mason POOPED on the POTTY!

Wahoooo!!
After weeks of sitting Mason on the potty and him doing a whole lot of nothing, today he FINALLY pooped on the potty!
ImageImage
He has peed a couple of times on it the last couple of days, but we have really been encouraging him to go poop on there, because frankly we are over changing his poopy diapers! We aren't really doing the potty-training thing full blown yet, because I don't think he is ready for that yet. However, like I said we are OVER changing his poopy diapers and he's been telling me when he poops lately anyways so we thought this would be a good start. I had told him weeks ago that if, "he put poo-poos in the potty" he could have some ice cream. So of course minutes after he pooped he screamed, "ICE CREAM"! I was so excited for him and happy to give him his well deserved ice cream!
Image
I told him that mommy was so happy that he pooped in the potty and he told me "Mason happy too!" Oh, it was such a proud moment for both of us, and we were both grinning ear to ear! I'm hoping this is a start to seeing many more poo-poos in the potty! Way to go Mason, we are so proud of you!

Tractors & Dump Trucks

This morning the kids and I met up with some friends at Allen Pond. As we were making our way over to the toddler playground we passed by what was the bigger kid play ground, but is now under renovation. They are updating the playground and had torn all the old equipment out and there were tractors and trucks there digging up the dirt. Mason was in heaven and just wanted to stay and watch the tractors instead of going to play. I struck a deal with him that if we could go play for a little bit then we would stop and watch the tractors before we left which he agreed to. So that's exactly what we did and he was one HAPPY boy!

This was our view from the bench.

Seriously, the boy was in heaven!!

Emma could have cared less, she was content sleeping through it.

National Aquarium

This morning we headed up to Baltimore to visit the National Aquarium. We got there a little before 10 am and it wasn't very crowded yet which was nice. This huge waterfall that was 3 stories high greeted us as we entered the aquarium and waited in line. Something about it freaked Mason out and he didn't want to come in, he turned around to head back out the door. Steven had to pick him up and carry him in kicking.

Image
Image
One we got up close to the water and he could see all the animals inside he forgot all about the waterfall.
Image
They had several stingrays, and this one was HUGE!
Image
He liked the turtles.
Image
Image
He also liked seeing the small alligators.

Image
Image
We found our way to the Dolphin Discovery area and watched the dolphins from the underwater viewing area for a while before we were able to go into the open above viewing area where they do the presentations. Mason LOVED watching the dolphins swimming under the water.

Image
Except for when they came right up to the glass, this was him turning to run!
Image
Mason watching the boats in the inner harbor while we waited for the above viewing area to open.
Image
It finally opened at 10:30 and we thought that's when the presentation would be, but the first one wasn't until 11:00.
Image
We had really good seats right in the middle and Mason was hungry so we decided to just stay there, let him have some snacks, and wait for the first show. This also gave Emma a good chance to sleep a little. We had fun watching the dolphins play around with their balls in the water, throwing them up and knocking them around before the show.

Mason was mesmerized by the dolphins and loved the presentation where they showed off a few of the new skills they are learning.
ImageImage
Our favorite was watching the dolphin try to walk on the water with his fin.
The dolphin saying good-bye to the crowd.

Seahorses
Image
Another one of Mason's favorites at the aquarium was this huge octopus.
Image
Unfortunately, it was also everyone else's favorite too, so it was hard for him to get close enough to see it. These were the best pictures I could get of it holding my camera up over people's heads.

Image
Big fish swimming fast.
Image
Image
The Shark tanks.
Image
They were all swimming so fast that almost all my pictures are blurry. This is one of the better ones that I got.
Image
It was a little after 12 when we finished at the aquarium and we were all starving so we headed over to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. It worked out well because I was able to nurse Emma while we waited for our food. Mason colored while he waited, and fought to stay awake. Poor boy was so tired.
Image
A very happy girl after she was fed and changed. I even got her laughing for a minute! She really did great today and didn't seem to mind being nestled up in the moby wrap all morning.
ImageImage
Mason shying away from the camera. He was such a good boy today and really seemed to enjoy our visit to the aquarium.
Image
I made Steven take a picture of me and Emma, so that I could document that we were there too!
Image
We had a great time at the aquarium and I'm happy to cross it off of our "to do" list now!
