ACWWS Expresses Condolence and Solidarity with our Caribbean Brothers and Sisters
Dear Members,
The Association of Caribbean Women Writers and Scholars (ACWWS) acknowledges with regret, the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa, which has left a trail of destruction across several parts of our beloved Caribbean. We mourn with those who have lost loved ones and extend heartfelt condolences to families and communities in Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as all others who continue to suffer the storm’s effects.
At this difficult time, our organization stands in solidarity of heart, spirit, and mind with all who are affected. We share in your grief and anxiety, and we affirm our commitment to support and comfort one another in whatever ways we can. To our members in the Caribbean diaspora, ACWWS urges each of us to act with compassion and purpose—whether through direct assistance, advocacy, or prayer—so that our collective response may bring tangible relief and renewed hope to our region.
In a special way, we want to reach out to the women of the Caribbean—our mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, and aunties—who so often anchor families and communities in times of crisis. May the spirit of resilience and survival within each of you be awakened anew: steadfast, nurturing, and unyielding in the face of adversity. Your faith and courage continue to be the heartbeat of Caribbean endurance and renewal.
May we all remain united in empathy, strength, and action as we help rebuild lives and restore hope throughout our islands.
With profound sympathy and steadfast solidarity,
The Association of Caribbean Women Writers and Scholars
