Fly Away With Me : Munich, Germany (2014.12)

I will forever remember Munich, Germany as the first city in Europe that I visited. Something about Europe intrigues me therefore I was very excited to see what this city has to offer. As expected, I was not disappointed. The architecture in this city was astonishing, historical buildings definitely signify the history of the city.ImageImageImage
Since it was December, the Christmas markets were open. To be honest, i did not have high expectations for Christmas markets because the one and only Christmas market that I’ve been to was the one held in the Distillery District in Toronto. When i got to Germany, i was overwhelmed by the festive atmosphere. The Christmas markets in Germany were very traditional filled with food vendors that sold delicious mulled wine and snacks, as well as wooden crafts such as angels and ornaments. How cute are these candles with a santa hat!ImageImageMy first experience with mulled wine (Glühwein) was really good, I was never a red wine person but I definitely enjoyed a glass of mulled wine outdoors (in fact, i had two haha)! Mulled wine is essentially red wine heated and mixed with cinnamon and other spices. One glass of mulled wine cost about 4 euros, if you like a stronger drink, you could add a shot for 1-2 euros.  ImageImage
The interesting thing about these mulled wine vendors is that each vendor has their own unique mug. When you pay for your drink, you pay a deposit on the mug. When you return your mug after finishing your drink, you get the deposit back. However, if you like the mug, you could keep it without returning it; but of course, you wouldn’t get your deposit back. I kept this mug as a souvenir! When I saw someone holding this mug, I was determined to find it! I was so happy when i found the vendor!

I was rather disappointed when i realized i lost some of my photos because it was not captured properly, those were mostly food items that i tried at the Christmas market. I had one of the most tender pork skewers that i have ever tasted in my life; just thinking about it right now makes my mouth water. I also tried fried potato pancakes with apple sauce for the very first time, i must say the combination was strange to me at first, but it was definitely worth trying! There were many vendors with different types of chocolate covered fruits, i bought a skewer of chocolate covered grapes, the milk chocolate was rich and creamy. One skewer was definitely not enough.ImageImageI also got the chance to try a sample of this pizza but i couldn’t fit any more food in my stomach that night.ImageIn the evening, i still could not believe i was in this romantic city, the feeling was just surreal. The buildings, people and atmosphere were so different compare to back home. I kept telling my friend that i want to stay in Munich forever, wouldn’t you?ImageImageImageImage

Fly Away With Me : Shanghai, China (2014.11)

Last month, I got the chance to go to shanghai for the second time! It was the first time that I got to do some sightseeing around Shanghai. I have seen the oriental pearl tower (东方明珠塔) on television many times, it was amazing seeing it with my own eyes. The Oriental Pearl Tower is located by the Huangpu River (黃浦江) in the Pudong district. The skyline of Shanghai is definitely comparable to Hong Kong.

The Bund (外灘) located beside the river. The architecture in this area is very charming, it gives off a very romantic feeling just by taking a nice stroll by the waters.

I always go to this restaurant call Xiao Yang Sheng Jian (小扬生煎) to buy these delicious pan fried pork dumplings. These dumplings are filled with thick and rich soup which makes it so appetizing. The best thing is enjoying delicious food while watching my favourite tv drama in bed. Life is good.

Fly away with me : Gander – Canada (2014.07)

There is nothing better in the world than working with amazing people that are willing to go out and explore the city with you. They make the most boring layover destinations fun. When i knew i was going to Gander, i pictured Netflix in my hotel room for 30 hours but thankfully, my co-workers and I decided to rent a car and go explore Twillingate to see icebergs in July!ImageImageImageMy first time seeing an iceberg! ImageThe iceberg looks very small in this photo but this view is from the top of a mountain!ImageFor lunch, we decided to stop by a local famous seafood restaurant to have lobster.ImageAfter lunch, we did some more exploring. There is something about lighthouses that intrigues me.

Image  ImageImageImageOur last stop before heading home was the North Atlantic Aviation Museum. When we got there, it was closed but they have some aircrafts displayed outside the museum. We managed to snap some shots before ending our day. ImageImageImageImage

We ended our day with a breath taking view of the sunset in Gander. This layover was so memorable and much needed. Living in Ontario, Canada, I never got to see and enjoy Canada’s aspect of nature. Even though working domestic flights seem boring to some people, I am thankful I get to opportunity to enjoy and appreciate this great city.Image

Summerlicious 2014: Edo

For this year’s summerlicious, i decided to try out EDO japanese cuisine wine and sake bar.

Edo is located on 484 Eglinton Avenue W, North of Toronto. When i first entered the restaurant, the atmosphere was very elegant, it featured an open dining room which gave me a very spacious feeling. Edo’s summerlicious featured menu was $35 which included an appetizer, main course and dessert. It was very difficult to decide which dishes i want to try because i wanted to try them all! But in the end, i chose the Beef shabu-shabu udon, as well as Chef’s daily special assortment sushi as my appetizer, Salmon Hotate and Shisso Papillote as my main course and my favourite Kurogoma Panna Cotta, which is a black sesame pudding.

After ordering, i was given a dish with scallop and seaweed mixed with a vinegar dressing to clean my palate.

Appetizer: Beef Shabu-shabu udon (When i saw this item on the menu, i thought it was a hot food item but it turned out to be a cold noodle dish, it was quite tasty)

Image

Chef’s daily special assortment sushi (the sushi was very delicious, it was different than other sushi that i have tasted in the past. The chef rolled them up in small balls and recommended not to use any soy sauce because each sushi had a different type of sauce on top to bring out the flavour of the fish.)

Assortment sushi

Main Course: Salmon Hotate and Shisso Papillote (This baked dish consist of salmon, hokkaido scallop, shisso with shiitake, enoki and white mushroom wrapped in parchment paper. The salmon was very delicious, not dry at all because all the juice from the vegetable and salmon remained within the parchment paper.) PLUS : the little crane on top of the parchment paper was very cute.

Image

Dessert: Kurogoma Panna Cotta (it’s a black sesame flavoured milk pudding, i will eat anything that is made from black sesame especially ice cream and pudding! This pudding was so creamy, i wish i am having some while i’m typing up this blog post! haha)

Fly away with me : Hong Kong (2013.09)

Image

Ever since i started flying, i have been looking forward to the day when i can do Hong Kong flights on a regular basis. Since the airline industry focuses on a seniority system, it will definitely take more than 2 years to have Hong Kong on my schedule. Therefore, i get extremely excited when i get called to do a HK flight last minute!

Why do i enjoy doing Hong Kong flights ? The main reason is i’m going home! I was born in Hong Kong, even though i came to Canada when i was young, i know where my roots are and the sense of belonging will never fade, it will only get stronger and stronger as i get older ! Going to HK also means i get to see my childhood friend and enjoy yummy food together!

Langham mall was having a super cute hello kitty display of the old Hong Kong. I love going to malls in Hong Kong because they put in alot of effort in mall displays and decorations. It is something that i don’t see as much in Canada.

* I noticed that my posts were out of order, i apologize for the confusion I may have caused. I thought the earliest post that i needed to write was Japan-Narita until i looked at my photo album and realized i forgot my short visit to Hong Kong hehe.

Shop with me: Japan Daiso Haul

Being in Japan for a short period of time, i could not hold myself back from buying cute things and yummy snacks. I had an awesome time shopping at Daiso. Daiso is a Japanese dollar store, everything cost 100 yen which is equivalent to around a dollar in Canada. However, the things that they sell at Daiso are very cute and good quality! My all time favourite candy is the fettuccine candy in grape flavor. I have no self control when it comes to this!

Image

Japan has really awesome inventions as well. The pink silicone ring beside the hello kitty container is a can/bottle opener, sometimes opening a water bottle can hurt your hand, this little gadget will solve the problem! I also bought some really cute frilly socks and a pair of really warm gloves. The purple/white/pink pouch with a bow on top is a hot water bottle, it is perfect for long haul flights !

Fly away with me : Japan – Narita (2013.12)

Japan was one of the places that i always wanted to visit but was afraid to because i know i will turn into a crazy shopaholic. I was extremely excited when i found out i was coming here for work because of the amazing food and my favorite Daiso store!!!

Image Image  Image

Since it was my first time in Narita, i decided to go eat dinner with my coworkers, they brought me to this ramen restaurant that crews from different airlines like to go to. Nothing is better than a bowl of hot ramen on a cold December night!.

There were amazing christmas decorations everywhere, i especially fell in love with the lit-up flowery christmas tree.

My coworkers and i went to a local seafood market the next morning. It was amazing to see how fresh the seafood were, i wish i could bring some home but we decided to have lunch at a sushi restaurant just for locals. When i first stepped foot in the restaurant, i noticed it was a fairly small place with a sushi bar and a couple chairs but the sashimi was so fresh, definitely different from the ones back home!

That’s all for my one day Narita Adventure! Stay tuned for my next post, i will be posting my Japan Haul from daiso!

Motivation!

I am finally motivated to blog again, the reason is..i reformatted my laptop so i can write entries and insert photos easier than typing on an ipad. Hopefully, i will be able to blog about all my travels in the past year. Japan-Narita, Japan-Haneda, Korea-Seoul, Hong Kong, Macau, China-Shanghai! Stay tuned! =)
