Music of the Week #750

Trying to get things on time

With how late last week’s post was, there’s not much to say. Darktide is apparently getting a whole new game mode which is pretty exciting although I would have just loved some new missions and weapons but hopefully this was worth the dev time.

Great Bay differentiates itself from the Water Temple by making the water levels be more focused on which way the current is flowing. Because Majora’s Mask was able to have some of the smoothest underwater traversal mechanics, they had to implement a dungeon design that played to its strengths than just have you sink and walk around. To do that, Great Bay Temple has a lot of industrial pipes and water control systems you manipulate and it’s honestly not nearly as tedious as the Water Temple. The difference to me however, despite that distinction mind you, is that I actually went back and fully beat Ocarina of Time while my run of Great Bay froze on me like 2 rooms before the boss and I just never had the drive to go back.

Got real busy

Between having a lot of work to do, all my free time was consumed by playing the Techmarine in Space Marine 2 and farming Ogryn kills for penances in Darktide with the new event. Barely had any time to do anything else in between. Oh, I guess it’s worth nothing that the Madome spin-off manga finally got updated after an entire year of no updates. Wonder if there’s any official word on that situation.

Water-based temples in Zelda get a bad rap and I have to admit that the Great Bay is yet another source of frustration for me personally. Memorizing the songs to get to said temples always did slip past my memory for whatever reason. The New Wave Bossa Nova however does stick to my mind because it’s probably the type of music I’d like the most from Majora’s Mask lineup of temple-related songs. The Zoras being particularly more involved with music overall in Majora’s Mask also helps.

A bit late

Got a bit busy but there’s not much else to say like last time. Both Space Marine 2 and Darktide have some stuff going on so Rogue Trader is going to have to take a backseat. I learned that the latter still isn’t done receiving support which surprised me, I thought it’s two DLC packs were all it was going to get. I was planning a second playthrough with them but now I think I’m better off saving that run for when it’s all out. I already made some mistakes heading into Act 3 before finishing a certain quest and now I’m annoyed at not doing it since that one decision had an ending slide.

The Gerudos make a return as a roving band of pirates headquartered in the eastern side of Great Bay in their own fortified compound. Now instead of needing to rescue the carpenters, we need to rescue the Zora Eggs that have been taken away. The fortress is pretty spacious and requires stealth but you can trivialize the entire map by getting the Stone Mask.

A bit late

Things are getting busy so that anime post is definitely being moved up for some time later. I have been keeping up with Mayonaka Heart Tune and my complaints are identical to Madome, and it’s probably not a difficult flaw to figure out especially if you’re a manga reader. I’ll most likely talk about it, hopefully, when the season ends.

Mikau’s theme happens in a blink but it’s a pretty memorable scene regardless. Probably because it’s the only on-screen death that happens in front of you for you to get acquire the transformation mask while the Deku Scrub and Goron’s originators had already died a while before. The musical identity for the Great Bay and Zora portions of the game definitely do stand out since more Zoras are associated with the music gig.

Not much else to update.

I have a bunch of episodes of Mayonaka Heart Tune loaded up but the first two episodes haven’t really entertained me as much as the manga. I also got Fate Strange Fake to be watched eventually, hopefully soon.

Great Bay is our third major area of Majora’s Mask and its big sub-overworld section isn’t any less depressing and creepy as the other areas. Not only do we basically have a dying man by the water, we also have a bunch of Zora baby kidnappings too. In exchange though, we have some of the best underwater movement in videogames.

Sidetracked

Last weekend was supposed to be a bit productive but I ended up taking a light romp with my friends through Saturday and Sunday. I won’t promise that anime round-up post anytime soon but I still want to get my thoughts down eventually.

Romani Ranch’s most notable happening is the alien invasion that occurs in the dead of night and Link has to assist Romani in fending off her farm from these creatures until morning arrives. The sequence isn’t too difficult but you do need to be on alert as even a single creature making it past your defenses mean you fail, and you’ll need to reset the cycle to get another attempt at this quest line. Romani is also taken by the aliens and I’m willing to bet not so pleasant things happened to her as she’s permanently affected by this until you turn back time.

Cold

Had to fight off a cold over the weekend and couldn’t get much writing done. Did get a lot of Rogue Trader in though and the wealth of choices scare me but the combat is definitely starting to make a bit more sense now. I’ll see if I can work on the anime stuff this weekend provided I can work ahead.

I took a look at my music list and realized that a lot of Snowhead is incredibly lacking in the music department and the Goron race is just a rendition of the Ingo/Gorman race tune. So we move on right to Romani Ranch’s little mask event where Link can get the Bremen Mask which allows him to play this Bremen tune. I feel like this is a reference to something in the earlier games but none come to mind. Certain masks allow Link to do some unique animations and this is one of them where he can play the ocarina moving but limited to playing this one song.
