Thought these would never bloom!

May 2, 2010

Finally, blooms on my False Indigo! 🙂  I’ve had these for about 4 years with nary a hint of a bloom. Would never have guessed that it would take this long for them to get established. It was worth the wait—and to think I almost pulled them out.

Off to an early start…

April 27, 2010

This small Emerald Tiara hosta was leafing out before most of the others had hardly begun. I don’t recall that it grew so quickly in previous years. It was moved into the bowl last year because the vinca groundcover just about had it hidden.

A Favorite Heuchera (Coral Bells)

June 4, 2009

Gardening seems to take precedence over blogging about my garden.  I have several of the Caramel heucheras.  They are both pretty and well behaved.

1st Plant Purchase This Year

March 27, 2009

I don’t like to buy annuals this early, but I got a deal on this croton plant too good to pass up!  The plant can’t stay outdoors until the temperature at night stays at 60 degrees or above. This means I have to haul it in and out for a couple of months!  Ouch!

Maybe More Hostas

March 12, 2009

In keeping with my thoughts of an easy care garden–maybe a couple of really BIG hostas that cover a lot of territory would help. Thus far, the only ones I’ve had are the medium and small varieties. I now have about 8 different hostas, several of a few kinds. I can remember when I thought “what would anyone want hostas for–they’re just a big clump of leaves!” But that’s been awhile. 🙂

Daylilies

March 8, 2009

When I began gardening, I chose daylilies as my main focus. I envisioned them coming back virtually forever, thinking that in a few years I’d only have to buy a few annuals each year and thinking I wouldn’t have so much planting to do as I aged. I had over 60 cultivars. What I didn’t know was that, unlike wild daylilies, most cultivars only return for 2 or 3 years. A few may be around a bit longer. Ah well–I enjoyed them while I had them! Out of several hundred photos, here are some of my better ones taken from 2003 – 2007.

On My Mind

March 2, 2009

Both plants and PCs have garnered a lot of thought lately. I’d like to get rid of the massive mess of wires the desktops “live and breathe” by and just go with laptops. But I wish laptops were made, in left handed & right handed models, with the touchpad on the side, and with the keyboard closer to the front. I could add a keyboard, but there I go with wires again. No so much though. Most of my data files are on portable drives anyway–I just have to decide on exactly what I want.

My 2009 garden lineup thus far:  More Persian Shield and Alternanthera for the top of the hill and even more begonias and scaevola than I usually get, since they do so well. If the new hostas and heucheras I got last year do well, I shouldn’t have to get as many plants this year. But then, I always think I’ll need less than I do to make the garden look good!  I have no such thing as full sun, so it makes planning more difficult.

It happens every year…

February 25, 2009

In March (or before), I can’t wait to get outside and work in my garden.  By July, I can’t stand the thought of having to do any more work in my garden. All I want to do is sit outside and look at it.

Hello world!

February 22, 2009

Just found an online desktop at Symantec called “GoEverywhere.”  I’ve thought for quite awhile that this would be the future, replacing the computers we use today.  I’d have thought Microsoft would have this first, with all of their software “converted” to online software to sell and import into your online Windows account.  Windows Azure, however, is not for home users.  Cloud computing seems to have several definitions and at present most of the efforts are business oriented. I haven’t tried the GoEverywhere desktop as yet.
