So after seeing that Matt Curtis was was removing dead links from his excellent blog on twitter this evening, I decide he could remove my blog as i’ve so been pretty slack on the updates. But after hearing that he enjoys my homebrew ramblings i’ve decide to write an update on what i’ve been cooking up over the last few months. Going forward i’ll try and keep up to date…
Spaced Pale Ale
With Christmas round the corner decided to brew something easy drinking that you can have more than 2 of, so under 5% and not to hoppy not that hoppy stop its being easy drinking.
Elderflower saison
Another beer I squeezed in over the summer was a Elderflower saison, this was brewed late june and I added 30g of elderflowers to the fermentor and left them there for five day before removing and bottling.
Cherry Sour
Doing some updates! Have done quite a few beers over the last few month going to add a few of the more interesting ones up here. First up a dark saison.
White IPA?
Time for something different for summer. I am basing this recipe around the beer Conflux 2 by Deschutes brewery which is meant to be a white IPA a sort of cross between a IPA and a belgian white beer I gather. They have quite a bit of information available on there site so that was good to get started.
Two pales
Been brewing this time I cooked up two pales one weekend after the other, one was a clone of Zombie dust the three floyd’s beers which I have never tried but saw the recipe on homebrewtalk it basically looks like a citra hop bomb so thought i’d give it a try.
Saison series – fermé 1, Citrus
Even though its snowing spring is somewhere out there, its time to begin the Saison Series, one of my ideas for this year is to brew a series of saisons and basically try to be a bit more experimental, i’m still getting to grips with the new kit, have done about 10 brews on it now and I feel my beer are greatly improving. I have now added in one of the little solar pumps to recirculate the mash and to make sparging easier.
Hefeweizen
So after brewing quite a few hoppy beers decided to get something a little less hoppy and more yeast forward and after reading around I decide to try brew a hefeweizen. Next up I had to decide if I want to give a decoction mash a try.
Red Ale
Been a bit lapse on post so far this year, so far have managed to brew a american wheat hopped with NZ hops which is a session able 3.5% and also my biggest IPA to date with a boat load of mosaic hops, its currently sat dry hopping with 50g of mosaic and another 50g of centennial and smelling amazing, will be bottling this up later in the week.
Surlyish Bitter
Managed to get a brew day in on new years eve, this might have to become a little tradition. For a while I have like the sound of a recipe for a clone of a Surly bitter which I have seen on northern brewer website.
So put together the recipe below based loosely around information on the NB website and the Surly website the aim was to have a nicely hopped, easy drinking bitter to take me into the new year.
