First Day of First Grade

Our first grader. I am having so many more emotions this yeaar than I did for kindergarten. The fact that she will be gone all day, take her lunch, join the big kids for recess are all hard things to adjust to. I am also so excited to watch her learn and grow. She is mostly excited, maybe a little nervous. I asked Ava a few questions on our way to school this morning:
1. What is your favorite movie? "Dumbo"
2. What is your favorite song? "Super Trouper and Dancing Queen"(Mama Mia soundtrack is on repeat in our car)
3. What is your favorite color? "Pink, blue, purple and red. My favoritest is blue"
4. What is your favorite show? "Guess How Much I love You"
5. Favorite thing at school? "Recess"
6. What is your favorite scripture story? "Nephi and the ship"
7. What do you want to be when you grow up? "A Vet"
8. Where is your favorite place to go? "Swimming Pool"
9.What is your favorite food? "Tacos and Pizza'
10. Who is your best friend? "Vivi"

Ava bright and early eating breakfast. She didn't do to bad adjusting to a new wake up time after a very unscheduled summer.

Here she is off to school.(She is holding her kindergarten picture)

Lining up for class. Ava is on the A track so she comes early and leaves early. Half her class comes later and leaves later.

Ava had to collect 5 things to help tell about herself. Here is what she picked: Elephant, marker, soccer ball, sea shell and Ballet shoe.
Image

Here is Ava's lunch. When she got home I asked her what her sandwich was shaped like, she said "A rocket." So much for trying to be fun. Ha.

After school snack. The first day of first grade was a success.
She said her teacher was nice all the time and they did fun things.

Hiking

Josh and I went to hike Timpanogos, which is pretty close to our house. It turned into quite the adventure trying to keep up with the guy who hikes for a living. After getting a little turned around getting to the trail head, which added 2 miles to our 16 mile hike, we found the trail and were headed up.
Image

Not too long after that .."Joshy I think we lost the trail.."
Image
yep this is not the trail but it has a pretty view!
Image
 Still smiling at this point
Image
He is a pretty cute hiking partner
Image
We saw a moose! Freaked me out, glad we didn't see a bear or mountain lion.
Image
This hike ended up taking a lot longer then we planned, even at Joshy's fast pace, so we didnt think we had enough daylight to summit so we eneded up going to see Emerald Lake.

Image

There were a bunch of goats by the lake..even the goats freaked me out.
Image
On our way back down we found ourselves off trail again. We were 100 yards above the trail and the only thing that sepereated us was billions of sliding rocks...

Image
This was half way down, you can see the trail down at the bottom. FYI: I think we figured out going backwards on hands and feet was better then forward on feet, butt and hands(owie).
Image
Two days later I still cant walk but it is all worth it, we had sooo much fun together!

Zoo Day

We had been waiting to go see this polar bear! So when Josh had a weekend off and we had some cousins in town we made the trip. Here is Ava meeting the polar bear
Image

So either they have a really well trained bear or it has lost it. It repeatedly would come to the window..
Image
lift it's self straight up and push back into a back float and then swim around and do it again.
Image
It's perfect for the kids. They get a good look at him. Every time Roan saw any animal he would say "Raarr!" We will have to work on our animal noises, but it was pretty cute.

Daddy and Roan waiting for the seals to be fed.
Image
 Mommy's favorite is: the tigers
Image
Ava's favorite: the elephants. OF COURSE!
Image
Roan's favorite: whatever this is...wallaby type thingy.
Image
Daddy's favorite : was the reptiles, no pics..ew.
Image
Roan was such a trooper. We got to the zoo right at his nap time and he made it a couple hours before crashing on the way home. Luckily we ended with the train and he thought that was pretty awesome. Whenever we are on or by any vehicle he makes, "vrrrroooom, vroom," noises. You might be able to guess his favorite movie is Disney's Cars.
Image

I almost forgot my terrifying encounter. I was trying to volunteer Josh for the bird coming to retrieve money from your hand and ended up volunteering myself. I dislike birds and was a little freaked about one flying at me. I basically turned my head and closed my eyes and missed the whole thing, but as you can see Josh is quite entertained! This was his favorite part of the zoo, forget the reptiles.

Fourth of July

We decided to go to the big parade in Provo this year! Woo. It was seriously
hot but this girls didnt let it rain on their parade.(Rain would have been nice)

Image
We were sooooo excited when we found out Josh got to celebrate with us. Turns out his
crew boss loves the fourth of July so we lucked out and he wasnt on call:)
Image
Roan didn't appreciate the sitting under the blazing sun.
Image
Got a pic with Josh and his buddy Smokey the Bear!
Image
Here is are cute front row.
Image
 These girls are oh-so-cute.
Image
After the parade we cooled down at the water park with many of Josh's coworkers. We ended the day with friends at a BBQ at our house and of course fireworks. We had a great view of some local fireworks.

Ava's first kindergarten

Here is Ava on her way to her first day of kindergarten. She was in a funny mood, maybe just nervous. She also made a little picture of herself to take to school.

Roan laughing at dancing beads

This is Roan at six months. He thought it was so funny when I would shake the beads and make a silly noise. He was laughing a lot more before I got my camera out...of course.
