Tamsui District
Traditional Chinese淡水

Tamsui District (淡水區, formerly known as Danshui District) is a port in New Taipei City of northern Taiwan (ROC). It is named after the Tamsui River which means "fresh water" River. The town is popular as a site for viewing the sun set into the  Strait of Taiwan. Though modest in size (population 130,105), the district is the home to three universities (Aletheia University, Tamkang University, and St. John's University) and it has a major role in Taiwanese culture.

Finland Postcard: Sibelius

Image
Jean Sibelius (8 December 1865 – 20 September 1957) was a Finnish composer of the later Romantic period. His music played an important role in the formation of the Finnish national identity. His mastery of the orchestra has been described as "prodigious."[1]
The core of Sibelius's oeuvre is his set of seven symphonies. Like Beethoven, Sibelius used each successive work to further develop his own personal compositional style. His works continue to be performed frequently in the concert hall and are often recorded.
