How many of you have a dinner on New Years with friends and family? We do, well, we did this year. I love having people over. Even when the house is a wreck and the kids are bouncing off the walls. Fun times, I tell ya! Lol!
We had the traditional black eyed peas and collard greens along with other yummy food. My father in law, sister in law, brother, nieces and the beastie and her family all came over. We all had a good time and totally got our food on! Can’t wait to do it again.
Of course, the first day of the new year just would not have been complete without something going wrong. We have had a small leak from our toilet for a little bit now and my darling hubby decides that yesterday would be the perfect day to fix it. Yay me. So while I am trying to get the food prepped and ready to start cooking he is calling me to come watch him fix it. Now I would normally indulge him but my brother was already in there with him. So I huffed a little and watched for a minute and then resumed my prep work. He got that all taken care of and wanted me to test it out and see how I liked it….seriously. I mean, really?!?! Did he really just ask me to test out the toilet?!?! It was not like it was a new toilet! To be fair, he did make it stop wiggling. 🙂 I know you are just dying to know if I tested that bad boy out………..no, no I did not. Well, not right then….it works fine though. Anyway!
It does not end there, though. Oh no no no no no! The hubs was being sweet and did some laundry for me earlier in the day. When I went to start a new load I checked the drier and the towels were still damp. I restart it and think that maybe he just did not set it long enough. I walk away and got preoccupied. After the toilet was fixed my hubby went to go start some more laundry and comes out and says that I did not put it on the right setting because the towels are still wet. I nicely disagreed with him about any wrong doing on my part. He goes to check it and find cold air being pumped into the dryer. The heating element is out. Ugh! So he watches a you tube video and tears the back of the dryer apart and removes the element and then tells me that he can’t get the part until tomorrow. Maybe…..if the local dealer has one. Great! So by this time dinner is running late, the kids are going crazy, it is almost time for people to show up and I still have not taken a shower. Perfect! Just perfect!
Well, everyone came, dinner was late, the kids all got along, we ate and I still did not get to take a shower! No worries, I did take one before hitting the sack! Oh, today, G is supposed to start school back but there is a small problem. The tore apart dryer is in the classroom. Leaving very little room to move around. We may just wait and start Thursday. We will see!
G slept in his bed last night, reluctantly. His cousins go home today so this was the last night he could have a little slumber party with K. He got up once and wanted to help me turn all of the lights and lock all of the doors. After getting him back in bed I sat on the bottom bunk waiting for him to go to sleep. After about 45 minutes I hear the top bunk squeak and look up and he is staring at me. I ask him why he is not asleep and he says “Mommy, have I been in here long enough? Can I come get in bed with you and daddy now?” First let me say that this broke my heart because I told him no. Second, I felt horribly guilty because earlier I had told him that he had to start the night in his bad and if he woke up in the middle of the night he could come to our bed. He totally did not understand the have to sleep in his bed first part. He huffed and puffed but gave in and was asleep in 15 minutes. Felt like forever. This is the second night he has slept in his bed and we don’t sleep we’ll without him. So, needless to say, it was a long night. I am exhausted!
Yesterday was a long day and an even longer night

Well, I gotta go tell the nieces goodbye and figure out if we are having school today. You all have a wonderfully blessed day!
Until next time,
Tonia
