PICKLE LEAP YEAR was the first solo exhibition by Hisham Assaad.
It was held in Blush – Gemmayze (Beirut) and it encapsulates the fresh spirit of the location and vibrant details of fruits and vegetables and nature that are sometimes overlooked.
The photos are not ordinary patterns or sights. They are 17 framed artworks and each one has a unique backstory which reveals a deeper connection to the land and abundance of its fruits.
In this exhibition, you’ll experience SWEET, SAVORY, and SALTY through the selection of photos that are curated specifically to match the ambience and colors of the venue. On the opening night, you’ll get to taste recipes prepared by the artist from his book Bayrut The Cookbook, and taste the great wine from Chateau St. Thomas.
I believe there is a beauty in the simple things. I look at the subjects and I want to have nothing but those items in my frame and I want them to be the star. Whether it is in a local street market, or in the most random place, or under my professional lighting equipment, I seek to bring out a stunning result from unexpected things.

Hisham Assaad’s first photography residency was a collaboration with BeyArt which connected him to Saj Stories through their Art Stay program. The photos were displayed for an entire year of 2024.
