Linden Lab Announces New Senior Vice President of Engineering Jerome Despret

On Friday 13th March 2026 Linden Lab officially announces the new Senior Vice President of Engineering Jerome Despret who has more than 25 years of experience in the gaming industry, Jerome has worked on large-scale online platforms and live services used by millions of players.

Earlier in his career at Electronic Arts and Maxis, he served as Lead Engineer on The Sims Online and later held leadership roles across the The Sims franchise, including helping grow the engineering team behind The Sims 4. He has also held senior engineering leadership positions at Riot Games, Zynga, and Pantheon Platform.

At Linden Lab, Despret will focus on strengthening the engineering organization and advancing the technology behind Second Life, supporting the platform’s continued growth for its global community of residents and creators.

This is very good news and hopefully we will see strong growth in the future in Second Life which would be amazing.

Good luck Jerome.

Second Life Grid Survey Data Feed Issues

Since 17th February 2026 it appears that the daily economic metrics for Second Life are not showing up on the Second Life Grid Survey like the daily concurrency levels.

With this being broken it’s effecting statistics on the Second Life Grid Survey and likely the inworld counters. Back in December 2025 and early January 2026 the Second Life API data feeds were not working due to a bug. During January 2026 the lab fixed the issue but now it’s broken again.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved very soon. The grid survey has been useful to keep track of what’s happening on the grid.

More updates soon.

New Second Life Mobile Update

Linden Lab have just posted a new blog post named Mobile Update: February 2026 via the official Second Life Blog featuring the latest new features.

If you have not tried out these new features yet I think it’s definitely worth having a go at it. Sending feedback is recommended to improve Second Life mobile.

In February, we introduced features that made communication clearer and performance stronger. With new features – Bubble Chat, Object Chat and Single Tap

The mobile team have rolled out new features to Second Life Mobile like Bubble Chat, Object Chat and Single Tap.

Bubble Chat

Chat messages now appear directly over the scene near the top of your screen – so you can stay immersed without constantly checking the chat window.

Messages display for up to eight seconds

Tap a message to jump straight into the relevant conversation and reply instantly

There is now improved stability & performance on Second Life mobile.

User settings now persist between sessions

Memory and threading fixes

Triggered audio now respects your volume slider

A common Android crash bug has been resolved

Object Chat Support

Bubble Chat now shows object names and supports messages from objects. That means vendors, interactive items, and scripted experiences can speak up and you’ll see exactly where it’s coming from, right in the scene.

Single Tap Interactions

No more long presses. You can now interact with objects and avatars with a single tap. It’s smoother, quicker, and easier to discover interactions.

Try Second Life Mobile today on Android and on iOS.
