Good signing, great birthday

Hi everyone,

I enjoyed myself as always, signing books on the front porch of Sundog Books in Seaside. Not sure how many copies we started with, a nice stack of three titles, but only two were left when I finished. It was a cool day but not too bad. Lots of Spring Breakers, mostly young women, who were determined to wear their short in spite of the mid-60 day. Miles of legs. Some came over and bought books for mothers, nieces, etc. The last picture in this string is of ROBIN and JEFF at Redd’s the singing barmaid, singing along to the lyrics of a song she was performing with gusto. I loved it!

Next day was my birthday! I was so happy with SANDY, ROBIN and TIM, and JEFF around me. Much love, laughter, wonderful food, generous gifts, and did I mention love?

THANK YOU!

Hi everyone,

My thanks to each of you who wished me a happy birthday yesterday and today. I hope I haven’t missed anyone. I spent much of the time going from phone to laptop and Sandy was very understanding — another gift. I got the chocolate cake I’d asked for and among my generous gifts was a box of Big Hunk candy bars, a taste acquired when I was little boy living in Ajo, Arizona.

And to show you that I wasn’t entirely idle, I found the solution to an enormous problem! Well technically it was Jeff who found it.

Signing at Sundog today

Hi everyone,

Forecast for this morning at 11:00 on the front porch of Sundog Books in Seaside is 64. Early rain should end by then. It’s the coolest day we’ve had in quite a while so there may not be many people out and about. But you never know. It is spring break. I’ll dress warmly and wait with a smile at the ready and a pen near my hand.

By the way, TIM RASINSKI and I are getting a lot of readers of our post article on The Robb Review. Here’s the link again. https://shorturl.at/8M1hT

My poem for March

Hi everyone,

Here’s my “gate” poem for March. I hope you are at work on your poem or at least considering possibilities!

The Gate

The cow with neither will nor wit
to lift the loop that locks the gate
that guards the fence that keeps her in
doesn’t see her early quit
held her back and changed her fate,
will never know what might have been.

Between now and then

Hi everyone,

Two days before I sign at Sundog Books. Today I’ll go over some last minute questions from the proofreader on the book that MARY JO FRESCH and I will bring out with Stenhouse in the fall. Otherwise, between now and then I’ll spend much of my time working on plans for the May 5 event at The Library Center.

Yesterday I finished one of those self-imposed projects that you don’t see coming. I decided to pull together a general summary of my publications and experiences as a poet. It runs five pages so that’s too long to post here but I’ll be happy to share with anyone who asks for a copy.
