'Home' Part 2

I have had the chance to work on many movies in my 14 years at Dreamworks. ‘Home’ which at the time was called ‘Smekday’ was one of my favorite assignments. I really think the early concept art we generated had an incredible spark and I would have loved to see it all selfishly get to screen.

About 6 years ago I was asked to join the team for a film named ‘Smekday’ to help create the initial conceptual character art that excited the top exec's at Dreamworks as well and get the project eventually green lit. Years later, the project was re-named ‘Home’. I worked primarily on the human characters and a few very quick thoughts for the little alien OHH..... While my partner in crime Tony Siruno did some absolutely stunning designs and the majority of the concepts for all of the aliens. I was also lucky to work with amazing artist such as Emil Mitev and Griselda Lemay.

I was very inspired and excited to design a young African American girl as the main character. I was even more inspired when early talks with Rihanna began to voice the main character. I tried to get her essence and coolness into the design of an 8 year old.
