God’s Word

TODAY’S VERSE
The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart.
Psalms 19:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Bible is a precious gift from God. Divinely inspired, it was written in order that we might know how to live. The Bible motivates, convicts, guides, warns, and teaches us. David wrote that believing what the Bible says is right and following its precepts brings joy to our hearts.
He then shares, in a very poetic way, how valuable the word of God is. He writes, “The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. – The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.” Today, spend time with God and His word, and let it bring deep joy to your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your word. Speak to me, guide me, correct me, inspire me. Teach me how to live. Give me a deep and lasting joy deep down in my heart.
AMEN

Thank God

TODAY’S VERSE
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God.
Psalm 50:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why do we make it so hard? What is it about God that we think we have to earn His love? It’s not that God wants us to. He doesn’t. The fact is, we can’t! However, there is something deep inside of us that wants to feel we have worth, and the only way we know to do that is to try and “earn” it. But what if you could see it another way? What if you started to believe that you have intrinsic worth? That you were created by a God who saw you as something with great value? That He took great pleasure in creating you? What if you started to believe that God loves you because you are you! If you could begin to grasp that, then you would start to understand today’s verse. God wants your worship of thanksgiving. He doesn’t want sacrifices to appease Him, or to bring you into a right relationship with Him. He wants you to realize that as a Christian, you are already His child and that you have all the love and acceptance by Him that you would ever need. All He desires is “thanks”. A heartfelt thank you, this is the offering He desires. Today, let the love of Christ fill your heart and bring a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude, a true sacrifice of thankfulness, to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come and bow before You. I am humbled by Your love for me. Today I come to say Thank-You. Thank you for all Your love.
AMEN

Patience

TODAY’S VERSE
Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
Colossians 1:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Patience can be very difficult to come by, but what a powerful attribute to have. Think of all that could be done if we acted with patience instead of haste and pressure. Think of all the aggravation that could have been avoided if we had waited just a little longer. Think of all the headaches and tension that could have been avoided had we only had patience. Patience is a sign of God’s presence in our lives. It is the result of His Spirit living in us, strengthening us with His might! Today, when difficulties come, when plans get foiled, or someone else’s urgency becomes our emergency, let us ask for patience. Let us cry out to God for strength and endurance, and by His grace, patience will be a fruit of the Spirit that is alive in us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your presence in my life. Thank You for the strength and endurance that You give me. I pray that it will give me the patience I need.
AMEN

No Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalms 23:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear can cripple us. It is an insidious cancer of the mind that eats away at our opportunities in life. Why is this? I am convinced that it is because we fear with our inner child or some other traumatized part of ourselves. We have unresolved memories that need to be dwelt with by Christ. Now it is true that we are to have “child-like” faith, but nowhere are we taught to have child-like fear. This is an immature state-of-mine. All we see is the terror and fear that we had when we were more defenseless. Instead, when we come to our valley of the shadow of whatever it is we fear, we are to face our situations as mature adults looking through the eyes of Jesus. As adults in Christ, we are not defenseless. We have all the power and love of Christ at our disposal. We can trust Him and step out in faith. Today, examine your fears. Ask Christ to come and comfort you like He did David. Ask Him to renew your mind and to heal that part of you that is in bondage. Remember, He is with you. He will comfort you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know me. I come now and lay my fears at Your feet. Heal me, help me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Chosen By God

TODAY’S VERSE
And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
Romans 1:6 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I never tire of hearing the word “called.” There are many things that I would choose in life. But how many choose me? What about you? How many times have you waited to see if your name was on a list? Have you ever had to wait to see if you would be picked to play a game in gym class? There are many things you and I think we need to do to please God, but God beats us to it and accepts us first. God has called us to belong to Him. This is it. The big “it” that all of mankind is starving for. Our calling to follow Him is the essence of our purpose and being in this world. Make no mistake; God has called your name. Today, follow Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me life. Thank You for calling me to yourself. Thank You for giving me purpose and meaning. Help me live each day for You.
AMEN

Give Him Your Anxiety

TODAY’S VERSE
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often you hear the admonitions: “Don’t fear,” “Stop worrying,” or “Quit being afraid.” These are helpful and can often deter us from pursuing a downward spiral of despair. But Peter had a better way. Instead of clipping back the weeds of fear and worry, Peter recommends pulling out all our anxiety by the roots and bringing it to Jesus. Not a few or some, all! And why can you do that? Peter says, “Because Jesus cares for you!” It is like the old hymn says, “Is there a heart overbound by sorrow? Is there a life weighed down by care? Come to the cross, each burden bearing. All our anxiety leave it there. All your anxiety, all your care, bring to the mercy seat, leave it there; never a burden He cannot bear, never a friend like Jesus.” Today, turn to Jesus. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know all about my worry and fear. I come to You now and cast all my anxiety at Your feet. Instead of taking it back, help me take Your love with me instead.
AMEN

A Word From God

TODAY’S VERSE
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get in the habit of reading the “word of God” without getting a “word from God.” There is a big difference. The Pharisees knew the word. Satan quoted it. But God’s word is meant for more than just reading. Paul wrote in a letter to Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Jesus said He gave us the Holy Spirit to personalize His word for each of us. He said, “He will teach you everything.” The author of the Hebrews wrote, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” So when we come to the word of God, let us remember that we are coming to God and ask Him to speak to us, move in our hearts, and show us His will. Today, don’t settle for the word of God; get a word from God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your wisdom. I need Your instruction. I need Your assurances. As I come to Your word, open my eyes, open my heart that I may hear Your voice, and understand what You want to say to me.
AMEN

Forgive

TODAY’S VERSE
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How much of life would be easier if we could forgive? Resentment, bitterness, rage, remorse, guilt, so many damaging, toxic emotions can come out of an unforgiving heart. But it is hard to forgive. That is why we need to turn to Christ for help. When we do, He will gently show us His scars and remind us of how much we have been forgiven. He will remind us of His unconditional love, and we will begin to find the strength we need to be more like Him. Mother Teresa knew what it was like to live a life of love and sacrifice. She wrote, “If we admit that we are sinners and we need forgiveness, then it will be very easy for us to forgive others. But if we don’t admit this, it will be very hard for us to say, ‘I forgive you,’ no matter who comes to us.” Today, remind yourself of God’s love and all that He has forgiven you of, and then go and do likewise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, may Your love fill my heart and soul and give me all the strength and courage I need to forgive those who have hurt me. Help me today to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

He Is Alive

TODAY’S VERSE

I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.
Revelation 1:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“He’s Alive!” Those two words can make all the difference in the world. So many people talk about a God of their choice. They say that we should be in touch with an energy, a force, or one with the universe. But the God of the Scriptures is so much more than that. We serve an entity. A true living God, not of our choice, but one that chooses us. A God who is there and is active in His creation. A God who united with us through His son, Jesus. Jesus came as a baby, lived among us, and then died to be a sacrifice for us. He took the penalty for our sins so we could be right with God. And then, as a result of His very Deity, Jesus rose from the dead. He is alive! What does that do for you? What reality does that speak into your life? Our God is real, and He is alive. He is all-knowing and all-powerful. And most of all, God is vitally interested in your life! Do you know Him as your Lord and Savior? If not, today you can invite Him to be your God and give Him complete control of everything you are. When you do, He will not only be alive, He will be alive in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I thank You that You are alive. I need to know that You are alive in me. Forgive me of all my sins. I accept the death of Jesus Christ as the payment for all my wrongdoing and ask You to become alive in my heart. Make me a Christian right now. I pray this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN

Trust God

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverb 3:5-6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We never seem to run out of opportunities to “trust” God. That doesn’t mean we choose to trust Him. If we were honest with ourselves, we would admit that most of the time we choose to fear, run, hide, get mad, pout, strike out at others, and a myriad of other reactions to the many stresses in our lives. But this is not what God wants. God wants us to trust Him. Solomon knew this and shared his secret to trusting God with us. Trusting is the result of drawing near to God with your heart. Trust is choosing to move from fear to faith, anger to peace, and doubt to certainty. Solomon warned against relying only on our own understanding. He encouraged us to move toward God, seeking His will in everything that is going on. It is in “trusting God with all of our heart” that we find Him near, showing us which way to go. Today, when you find yourself in a quandary, stop! Draw near to God, seek His will, and trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come to You, drawing as near as I can. Here is my heart. I come seeking Your will and will trust in You.
AMEN
